Re: Style Icons

For entries in this thread, does the man need to be a generally agreed upon icon or can it be an obscure person or character that one thinks exemplifies well dressed?

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.

^ Formby, predictable maybe - but actually unforeseen! He had started coming under Posh's influence here but had not yet covered himself in tattoos like a tombola stallholder.

Re: Style Icons

I actually like Stephen Fry's approach to style. I like his tastes on QI.

Re: Style Icons

Fry on QI wears some atrocious stuff, shawl collared and skinny skinny lapels and weird shirts and funny ties. Often he hits it ok with his mad colours. But one thing he does do is wear his clothes well. I often cringe at what he has on but he always looks comfortable and very much like Stephen Fry rather than trying to look like someone else.

The panelists have a passion for those bloody floral shirts - is it widespread in UK?

Re: Style Icons

^It's unusual and modern. I couldn't easily see it on myself. It's too youthful for someone whose hair is rapidly turning white.

Re: Style Icons

^I am pleased that you know of Buchanan. His tailors were Hawes & Curtis; shoes by Lobb. His films have been said not to show him as well as the stage work and he continued with the stage throughout his life (film and stage on both sides of the Atlantic); dying, in 1957, during the run of 'La Plume de Ma Tante' at the Garrick Theatre (where hangs the portrait by Baron, shown above - although it is no longer in the foyer but in the royal retiring room). Maybe, the best of his later films was the Band Wagon, with a starry American cast

The post that I was commenting on has gone!
