Shurons baby
I bought these shades in the 1980s, I guess they're from the 1960s or older. I didn't have a clue about "Ivy" but I knew what I liked, I was instinctively wearing it without consciously knowing it. I still wear these shades and now I'm older, I need reading glasses and want them to be like these. Only yesterday I learned they are a "P3" shape (thanks to no other than CC's Ivy Style blog).
Shurons are great but in my age bracket there's too many Hackney hipsters in similar below par exanples. I swear by Oliver Peoples Gregory Pecks or Rileys. Both P3 shaped and timeless in look.

I needed some more reading glasses so I searched ebay for P3 frames and lots came up. I bought a pair of vintage frames quite cheaply and sent them to one of the internet optician companies; I think it was Glasses Direct. They fitted prescription lenses for about £30. The service was very quick and easy, they sent me a pre paid mailing kit to send the frames to them.
You need to know your frame size and your prescription to do this.

Oliver Peoples do their own Shuron clone for two times a bit on the price of the originals. They do have some good frames though, I was a loyal customer of there's before I joined the Air Titanium fad in the mid-90's. The Gregory Pecks in tortoise look grand indeed.
I'm currently a bonafide Malcolm X style Shuron Revelation wearer, took a while for half-frame style to click with me. They reveal all their glory when the clip-on shades are added.

RayBan Clubmaster is my favorite frame.
I've got specs with the Clubmaster frame, I love 'em. I've got Shrons too, which are a bit heavier on the browline for those Malcom X moments.
There will be peace in the valley when I get my mansion on the hill!
Anglo american 406 - currently wearing them in amber tortoise. I tried on several Oliver Peoples in the P3 shape but none of them sat quite right on my face.

They seem to be the only ones to sit right on my face. Its my oval features.
Freeways... all the way! For me at least... And Shuron Sidewinders for sunglasses. Still made in America and trust me, they've endured being dropped, stepped on, smashed with drumsticks, and a multitude of other trauma. The lenses may scratch or crack, but the frames just keep on keepin' on. Not to mention, Shuron is a great company to deal with, at least if you live in the U.S. I called them and they sent me 3 or 4 different sizes in the mail, just to try on. You can keep the frames you like and return the rest. ![]()
I tried the Freeways and they didn't suit my face, I notice you have Shurons Ronsirs on it that photo: indestructable with real provenance and still American made. They're is also good to deal with outside the States, they're focused on the customer, probably because they know once they get you, their superior quality means you will be back for more.

You see too many online who wear frames that don't suit them just because they've read that they're the 'right' frames to have. A shame.

Ditto: clothes too
Its not easy getting the right frames for the face. In the end the traditional rimless is best for most faces.
Too many hipsters getting around in giant black FREEWAYS and SIDEWINDERS now, many with only clear glass.
I did see a bloke in the Shuron fades the other day and they looked good.

Actually, if you look more closely, you'll see that they are indeed Freeway Fades. Tried the Ronsirs but the nose pads bothered me. It is always a bit irksome to look up and see some tight-jeaned hipster with your exact glasses on (and trust me, Atlanta is full of these types) but you just have to remove yourself from it and just realize that every classic will be bastardized by someone at some point. Chuck Taylors for instance...

^Indeed, from a distance they look exactly like Ronsirs.
Fortunately, the hipsters where I am based all wear round horn rims, so any Shurons will be well under the radar.
I like Worried Man's style.
It's a timeless, classically cool style. Tony Perkins, Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Kerouac et al.
Nice to see someone not in a fucking blue crew neck jumper

Must they be mutually exclusive? Alas... I digress.
I often find some great old frames when I'm out mantiquing, but they are always so small. Even on my tiny head they just aren't possible. Same goes with vintage shoes. Quite ponderous in fact, as I'm as petite as I am sweet. Even in the Shurons, I have to get the absolutely smallest size possible, and they are only barely passable.
I'm so unhip I'd never even heard of Shuron. Just think of it! I want me some of that Sidewinder action. I barely need glasses, but I'd make sure I wore them a decent amount. Don't care how many hipsters are in em. Everybody should wear Shurons.
