Liam- No, not anywhere near as common as solid blue and white, or yellow, pink, or red/blue college stripe for that matter.  Just seem to have been fairly popular (from all the brands in aggregate, I dont think ive ever seen one by brooks ).

Re: The Green OCBD

I had some cool, rare shots of McQueen wearing, what looked to be, a pale `sage green`, unlined, button down collar shirt (worn un-buttoned). Colour shots. They seemd to have been taken at his Spanish style home, in the sixties. There were a couple of them. And in these shots he`s wearing the shirt under an ivory/pale cream alpaca cardigan and mid-grey (probably Levi`s, i would guess) thinner wale cord jeans  and cream, thick ribbed wool crew socks.

It appears that one of this series of pics was used in black & white for a Christopher Sandford biography on McQueen.

I saved the pics from an ebay seller but no longer have them. (One was my Talk Ivy avatar for about 5 minutes). I had to delete them when my last pc ran out of space.

Re: The Green OCBD

I'd love to have seen those colour photos. I love that image on the cover of the Sandford book. I love McQueen, and I love socks. Seventh heaven. (I hope one day to learn so much about socks that I'm known as the soxman.) The book credits Camera Press for the photo. I just googled and they don't even have the image up on their site, let alone any of him in that get-up in colour.

Yes, it`s a bit of a bugger! Mind you, it may still be in the Talk Ivy vaults.

Re: The Green OCBD

It just popped back into my head in re the miles shirt- I dont think its andover at all.  Ever since seeing one in the flesh, I've always been pretty sure its a cotton/synth blend in kind of an ultra-lightweight chambray. the fabric does indeed give the appearance of linen or silk in the mixture, especially in that lighting but that shirt blend combined with those buttons, pockets, and collar was a semi-popular deal at the time...red being slightly commonplace, grey seen every so often... never actually seen a green one. The red one I have buried somewhere is I believe mfg. by Ashland, precursor to gitman, but I cant remember. Might be Manhattan too but dont know if that company is that old.

Re: The Green OCBD

A green Chambray Popover would be the best thing in the world. I have no doubt about that. A green OCBD popover would be a very close second.

Great stuff on this thread today. Thanks to all involved for those contributions. Such a shame we can't see those McQueen pictures.

Paul- I like a sage green. It would look almost grey from a distance. Very subtle and I suspect it would fade to a very soft tonal green over time. Awesome stuff.

Re: The Green OCBD

I don't think it is Shamrock. I may have misled you a bit there. It's just when George mentioned a popover McQueen was wearing in another photo my imagination got the better of me and I started daydreaming of green chambray popovers.

A million Ivy points for anyone who can find a picture of McQueen in a green OCBD. Popover gets an additional miiion points.

I think people on here, people who know stuff if I recall, have said that the Miles shirt is a popover.

Re: The Green OCBD

i think popovers, as well as other shirts named after breakfast foods, have gained more juice in this neo-ivy-revival or whatever it is, than they ever had originally (not that i dislike them). the fact that they were around speaks more to brooks' ultraconservatism than any boom years pop-ularity they ever had...they were a remnant from the days when most shirts were pullover style. correct me if I'm wrong but when gant introduced the rugger as a gimmick it barely lasted more than a year or two.

Re: The Green OCBD

Man, that post really has me wanting to see these shots. They must be online somewhere. Perhaps on Japanese fandom webspace. I'm going to do some rough google translate stuff later and see if I can do an image search for these shots. I'll trawl the outer limits until I have something to show for it.

Thanks again for your input Jesmond.
