Personally not too keen on the colour, but will say this for TT, he will go and experiment with the look, in what I would call the right way, as opposed to the slapstick prep/hipster

Re: A Sneaker Thread

I've seen a few photos of Mods from the 60s in trainers. I think theres one on Jack The Cat was Clean of a guy on a Vespa in black Incontinence pants. Not sure of the year.

As for sussed Casuals and B-boy. Most of my mates were casual in the 80s and I can assure everyone that they had no interest in B-boys what so ever. I don't think B-boys were even heard of when the casuals took off. They changed trainers like others changed underpants. Infact, there was no sportswear at all in the casual look at first, save for polo shirts. It was Kicker boots, Incontinence pants trim tram, Lee faded jeans, Pringle and Lyle & Scot Argyle jumpers, if you were really going for a top boy look it was Armani, and the top Armani jumper was the patch one they did at the time. It went more sportswear with Fila, Kappa and Ellese after that. With stupid Deer Stalkers. The bubble Coat period. A top coat at that time was a Luther Sking jacket. Not recalling anyone wearing trackie bottoms, Louis jeans were all the go. You took the label off the back and sewn it on above the cuff. You also split the seams by a few inches so the front of your jeans went over the top of your footwear. After that, it was Burberry and Aquascutum, Cerutti 1881, RL Polo, Farahs, Mocs, Reporter, Marc' O Polo, Chipie, C17 jeans, a top boy would wear a Dior blazer, shirt and tie. Yes, thats right ties were in for a bit. Then it was Incontinence pants Speed tracksuits for a summer. Then timbo's were all the rage, and rockports after that, Stone Island towards the end of it as a fast changing look. Theres other labels as well as the ones I've mentioned. The new law of Violent Disorder replaced Affray as section 2 of the riot act and sentences were increased because of this. This was about 1986-7. Instead of 3 months people were getting 18 months-2 years. The Dawn raids of some mobs resulted in 5 years upwards for some top boys. This was the start of the end. Rave finished the Football altogether as a mainstream youth culture. No fucker had heard of B-boys until well after the start of the casuals. I think the first I'd heard of it was the film, Street Beat. Or was it Beat Street? I don't give a toss what was said in 442 by some tosser of a middle class Journalist.

Re: A Sneaker Thread

Easily found in EU Dom.

Top link in google shopping http://www.not-addicted.co.uk/products/Spring-Court-G2-Canvas-Pumps-White.html

Lots more to sift through.

Try doing the same George on googleUS. Google shopping has a much better hit rate than it used to.

Re: A Sneaker Thread

Posting here not to piss off Woofboxer... wink:

for Liam:

http://www.global-blue.com/destinations/italy/milan/superga-2750-celebrates-100-years/

it's been 1911 not 1913. Superga started then and launched the Cotu Classic 2750. I guess the next were Keds and then Converse... not too sure, though. smile

Re: A Sneaker Thread

If you have a read of that blog I linked to on the thread Woof gave me into trouble on, you'll see that the Americans were making them pre 1900. Not Converse though as I mistakenly said.

Re: A Sneaker Thread

For sure... Goodyear invented the rubber sole... then the first sneakers were made etc. - I read the link, I just wanted to correct myself with 1913/1911. I suppose the Cotu Classic was the first mass produced... then Keds, then Converse wink

PF Flyers, Superga, Vans? Maybe of interest to some, especially at £25? Not my cup of tea, but perhaps LM,TT?

Re: A Sneaker Thread

Me too - I just read it in an article about sneakers in general three years ago - I prepared it for my class for a test.

Those blue Cotus look nice - would wear them, too smile
