Re: The jeans question ...

Reminiscent of jeans you'd find in a discount store in the 1970's.

USA made?

Re: The jeans question ...

/\  both of those vintage Key dungarees above have made in the USA printed on their labels

but it is easy to deduce that they're not USA-made anymore

otherwise they'd be advertising them as such and the country where they're being made now isn't mentioned ....

Re: The jeans question ...

Oli, you sound like a man in a blind panic - chill out dude. If they are not right just return them, though I really think you are looking for something that is not out there and was not really out there back in the day. The only real high waisted denim I remember are the Bon Scott budgie smugglers and the Charlie's Angels originals in their double denim.

I did say check out Mr Freedom at the time as the guy shows photos of him wearing them and details clearly the cut and style - I fear you will be returning these Tellason for not being the right thing - I hope they are what you are looking for, if not maybe try the latter.

Re: The jeans question ...

Oli don't panic fella, like T says just give them a go.

I really hope I haven't steered you wrong but my reasoning for mentioning the Tellasons was they are a good approximation of the 1947 501, this is the last cut by Levi's where the fit is closer to classic tailoredpants shape with a slight taper from the knee which is what I think you were after,
Most modern selvedge denim are cut in a later 50s 501 style , some times called the 'anti-fit' shape with a straight leg ( and hence a wider hem) and a very square top block, these tend to look best worn slightly oversized and worn in a 'rockabilly' style with the waist cinched by a thick belt with a big pair of boots at the end, and I don't think that is what you were after.

I really hope these work for you, but if not there are some more mid-price labels to try ( orSlow, Kojima, Pike Bros) and there's also the jump up to some of the more nosebleed priced labels.

Re: The jeans question ...

I like the Edwin Nashville -they probably fall into the same anti-fit style AB mentioned - decent rise on those but I think they might suit the tall guys better off the peg as the leg is straight down
And I tend to wear them for outdoorsy stuff with red wing boots most often
I'd go slimmer (Lee 101z - you tried those ?) for a desert boot or sperry etc

Re: The jeans question ...

^ I'm with you there MM,
Nashvilles have been my 'go to' jeans for for years ( I'm in a very well worn 6 year old pair today), it saves some of my more precious denim from everyday wear and tear,

Re: The jeans question ...

Not panicking at all; just pointing out inconsistencies that have me wondering what I'll actually be getting.

Acton, you've not steered me wrong man, I really appreciate the help. A lot. Hopefully they'll work out. If not, it's no big deal; I'll probably try the Mr Freedoms. From what you've described though, they sound like they should work - you've described exactly what I'm looking for in a pair of jeans. I'm hoping they turn up this aft and I'll post an update if/when they do. Thanks again, man!

Re: The jeans question ...

Cheers A_B, will give that a whirl, as you say only ever done the hot shrink to fit before, never done it on sanforized dry denim.

Re: The jeans question ...

As expected, the Tellasons are a bust. hmm

They just arrived and they have a front rise of 11.75" (as I suspected) and not 13".

Not your fault, Acton - I appreciate the help and they were worth a shot!

I guess I'll wait for the stupid priced Iron Hearts in spring. Bummer.

The back pocket stitching is kind of goofy but these are the only specs that speak to me:

Re: The jeans question ...

Hi Acton,
I was curious to read you prefer the Nashville over the ED55. I have been thinking about buying a pair of the ED55 and would be interested to know why you prefer the Nashville.
Thanks

Re: The jeans question ...

Ahoy sunra,
I've been wearing them for +15 yrs ( when they were the original 'made in Japan' version, purchased from the now defunct Interstate store in Covent Garden ),
the fit works for me ( I prefer the higher back rise) and it only comes in one flavour of denim - 14oz sanforised 'raw' red listed selvedge (making tracking down a pair easy, no special editions/variations to worry about).
Oddly for such a consistent 'mainstay' of the Edwin range they do turn up in the sales for about £80 making them a bit of a bargain.

My only 'beef' with the ED55 is the small watch/coin pocket looks wrong to me, only a minor thing but a deal breaker for me.

Re: The jeans question ...

Ollie, let me ask you this... If the Tellasons and the Wranglers were both in the drawer, regardless of price, which would you reach for?
