Used to called slipovers. Fine if you can get one with a deep V neck.
Somewhere along the line they acquired nerdy connotations.
I like em, got a couple and work great under a jacket without the bulk in the sleeve.
I like them, be it over a shirt or a polo shirt. In Germany they are called "pullunder", which is curious because it seems to be an anglizism turned wild.
They are often considered to be a bit square, unsophisticated and nerdy. Or, in my work envirionment, in a combo of white shirt and black slipover even as "dress up".
Mine have v-necks and I am considering one with a crew neck for next winter. The famous Andersons Everest is available in a no sleeve version and I spotted a few Alan Paines in a shop, which looked good, too. May be odd in the beginning, because those jumpers mostly have v-necks but I'll see.
Yeah, I'd go with unsophisticated. A Good solid coloured tanktop can look great with jeans and solid shirt in a no nonsense understated way. They start looking a bit nerdy and square when you pair one up with trews or chinos.
I like them, but the Santorum association is unescapable these days in the US...
We have our own problems. But I feel your pain.
I like them. My favourite is, dare I say by J Press.
..wouldn't rule out chinos, too. Although I must admit...if I was a stylist for a movie, I would not necessarily dress a rebel character in chinos, shirt and slipover.
What the heck, I like it and that matters.
I can't wait for the helmetless one coming out so I can put that head on this body.
Ok so there's the mention of homosexuality, so just west indian takeaways, and some point over your ancestory, for a winning hand of three of kind.
I doubt that they're Ivy but I regularly wear tank tops when the weather gets nippy. The only downside is the ugly way that your tie (if worn) will lump up inside the tank top and disrupt the clean appearance. There seems to be no good solution to this. I could wear a bow tie instead but, like braces, bow ties always seem to be interpretted by other people as worn to make some kind of statement rather than because sometimes they happen to be more practical. Or I guess that I could wear the tie outside the tank top like Agnelli (sprezzatura!), but that would be way too i-gentish.

What do you mean, you doubt that they're ivy?
That they
Were not sold/ advertised as ivy?
Were not worn on campus back in the day?
Do not fit in with the look?
Just curious...
Btw I have never worn a sleeveless sweater with a tie. Maybe I must trie?
A clip might work. Gotta get one!
