The real Russell Street. Rejected by Christian Chensvold

Overwhelming? Bombastic? Boombastic?
I met a small man with an enormous enthusiasm.

Dear Christian,

I have something which may entertain you. I have just returned from lunch with a certain James Frost Mellor over which we did a question and answer session. I see him again for lunch later this week for more of the same plus photographs. Are there any questions you would like to see answered?

He is an amazing case study. Charismatic to the point of devilishness and repeatedly self-reinventive to the point that he can be one person in conversation, be interrupted by a waiter and be somebody else to them and then in a heartbeat resume his previous persona when he re-engages with the conversation around the table. Fascinating to observe. You wouldn't want to get too close though. He is able to play chess with you in his head, no board required! A theory we tested which held true. A truly mutant brain.

Enjoying Ivy-Style no end.

Regards,

Peter.

Christian didn't bite.
I'll write up the Q & A here. I see James again Thurs or Fri.
Anybody with any questions has a chance to be a part of this.

PVL

He's not that small, is he?  On the one occasion I met him, I can't recall him being a dwarf or a midget.  (Not that I have anything against dwarves or midgets, I hasten to add.)  He has lost weight since then, I suppose.

Dear Peter,

Can you ask him if he's any closer to answering the questions I asked via e-mail 18 months ago please?

Thanks and regards,
Simon

Too high above the waist was the badge of the hopeless nerd/engineering student.  High waters were also not cool, the right length is the right length and you either grasp it, have the eye, or you don't.

Rather a flowery description I fancy, I suppose it depends how impressionable you are.

Still, you could ask him when I'm going to get my Camp Mocs .................

How did we leave it on the Camp Mocs front? Am I getting them for you? I need a new pair myself now I keep on going outside !

Young Peter and I had a very nice chat. The chess trick is an old one. Most people can do it up to a certain number of moves, beyond that there's too much to remember. Peter played very well for someone new to the game. I'm not sure about the 'self-reinventive' comment - I've know the staff in that restaurant for years & we have a certain very friendly relationship. I was merely chatting to my mates and then resuming the interview. As I was being tape recorded I was probably being more formal with him than I would otherwise, that's all.

Peter - You should have said you intended to sell the interview to Mr. Chensvold & I'd have acted up a bit more - Rolled around on the floor and stabbed a waiter, that sort of thing.

Yeah, but you should see the size of my 'enthusiasm' !  smile

I actually thought the mental chess thing was a metaphor.

And discussed what would be the most appropriate 'period ivy' meal to order, etc, whilst asking the staff to play some 50s jazz.  We do have an 'ivy lifestyle' to live up to.

I don't think he was trying to sell it, I think he couldn't give it away.

Oh well, think of it as pearls before swine.

Perhaps if you'd shared a UK ivy password or secret handshake, it would have been deemed more newsworthy.

Peter - Don't rush to publication, check Simon's Q&A first & see what's missing from your point of view for yours. I'm still always happy to chat.

You're a new name to me & Simon is an old contact. That's the only reason I'm saying he should be allowed first crack.

Plus I owe him. A year and a half?  I should cocoa !

Fuck off, Child. But thanks for all the drinks over lunch.

I don't take 'Face' from the kiddy class. Unless they actually are Faces... And you just ain't. Adam, Colin, Simon - There are many your age whom I regard with great respect. They've earned it & I even look up to them.
