A seamaster or just a similar design? I've been on the lookout for a decent one of these for a while, really simple design but they look cool.

Re: Ivy League watch for today...?

Looking for a suitable strap for the watch, i went to an Omega watches agent, in Bond Street , and was told that i could leave it with them and they could order the original strap that came with it, once they'd checked the appropriate serial numbers for the watch.

It was a little pricey. I bought a new watch strap from Selfridges, instead.

Re: Ivy League watch for today...?

Just had a look at the Ole Mathiesen site -- not bad.

Pity to hear about the Explorer change in size.  The original one had great proportions.  I've shied away from them because I've felt the watch stores I've seen the rebuilt or vintage ones were too expensive or marked to an extreme premium while all of those on the interweb, who the fuck knows the provenance?

just to be vulgar:  I remember I bought mine in maybe c.'90 or a bit before or after for about US$2000.  Maybe it was a bit before but the USD was strong and the SFF was weak and it was Zurich and what else could I do?  I remember thinking the polished stainless bezel looked bling compared to the ridged white gold.  I remember when the solid yellow gold one was popular.  I think it was about $8 or $10K and only assholes wore it.

The Mickey Mouse watch is back.  The Donald Duck one looks mighty nice.

It weren't me WM but thanks anyway, it's a very nice Waltham watch you've posted .....

I've got a few old Ivy watches but I'm not really a watch guy ... any old low-profile mechanical or automatic watch that keeps good time will pretty much do for me .....

Re: Ivy League watch for today...?

I'll say this, I haven't spent a substanshall sum on any of my old watches.  I like that the old watches are typically more streamlined, and a bit simpler.  And like I've said before, it's possible to find them in sizes that don't dwarf my twiggy wrist.  My trusty Timex weekender that I bought at Target still gets the most use.

I'd wear both proudly. Nice pieces.
