I have a couple of old art photog acquaintances who swear by that camera. For the street photographer, it's perfect because it is quiet and unobtrusive. Also, many photographers like the off-center viewfinder, which keeps your other eye free to see what is outside the frame, an aspect that many say helps with making decisions about composing the shot and staying aware of possibilities--as opposed to the SLR, with its centered viewfinder that in effect blocks your vision of what is outside the frame.

Indeed, you cannot beat a rangefinder, especially a Leica one to capture the decisive moment. Or why not do a Cartier-Bresson and shoot from the hip without using the viewfinder? Although the Nikon FM2 was a design classic, SLR's are just not suited for street photography, or candid shots, unless of course you're on special ops behind enemy lines shooting with telephoto lens. You also get mirror shake with SLR's which shouldn't be underestimated.
Some of the best shots I ever took was with the Leica Minilux, my trusty companion when I lived in Rio, small enough to take out and back in your pocket and move on before getting mugged. There was an excellent slide film at the time, a Fuji one with brilliant saturated and heightened colours, can't remember the name now, but it was fantastic. Happy days.
