Aye, it's a strange thing this growing old and entering middle age: suddenly, you realise that the way you imagine all your muccas is wrong, for now they too have pasty skin, pot bellies and sprogs all over the place. Indeed, the last time you had a drink with them was nigh-on 15 or 20 years ago!

I have decided not to regress, but grow into a Noel Coward or Fred Astaire elder statesman type figure. I lack the clipped diction of Coward and cannot dance like Astaire, so perhaps my mid-life crisis will take me into new realms of neurosis?
