Also worth noting, as it has come up in conversation on here a bit recently, is the suit with very tapered trousers.
I like the idea of ripple soles,
but never seen a pair of new 'USA made' in the flesh that look very good (Allen Edmonds did a pair that just looked wrong to me), and theres the european option a version by Camper that looks too 'trainer-ish'.
I've seen a vintage Dexter that look great, but never seen my size.
I usually end up buying something by Paraboot .
I don't know what you think you're playing at trying to start a thread on clothing? Good grief, this forum is really on the slide.
^LOL
An interesting thread! Yay!
They remind me of Isopods. I can imagine putting them in the cupboard and then finding them in the morning trying to claw their way out, maybe cannibalising a pair of Weejuns in the night.
The modern versions certainly are ugly. The vintage pair Culp is wearing and the Alden in the initial link are far more wearable I think and I can see myself wearing them but the modern pairs with the much thicker soles seem like a caricature. That seems to the style now though. The white vibram soles too that we see on modern shoes and boots are often unnecessarily thick.
I do think Culp and Cosby look great in that top pic too.
I think the ones in the picture look great - and I could really do with them at the moment. I think the other two that you posted look pretty ugly though.
Any idea what that sole was specifically invented for?
Crawling along the sea floor I imagine.
You couldn't do both....well at the same time.
^ Yes my bad. I guess I just wanted to spell your name THOR !!!! It still cracks me up after all these days.
Thank Jim!
Those are very interesting. I would like a pair of these for Summer walking. Nothing off road but they would be good one gravel paths.
But do you like them more than the sole on the ones far right?
^ Exactly.
They look like a mere form exercise devoid of any function, unless you want to catch dog shit. I could be wrong.
