Hello all,
This is my first post here. I have read through a lot of the threads here and finally decided to join. Lots of great info. I apologize before hand for a repost, but a search came up with nothing.
I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of pants these would be considered? Her wore them quite often in the early 60s and they are in most of the Claxton photos.
Here's what I know:
1. Khakis
2. Most likely off-white or very light khaki
3. Top enter front pockets
4. No belt loops
Anyone know more and know if I would be able to find pants that are similar anywhere?
Regards,
C

Thank you very much. I tried that, but for some reason it wouldn't work after I posted.

Those are Leesure Lee Prest. The shape of the pockets are a giveaway that they are Lee and McQueen was well known to wear the brand. They made them in various styles from a proper chino cut with on seam pockets and belt loops to Levi's Sta Prest alike cuts and other styles in between. Googling Lee Prest or Leesure will throw up old ads. Some of the pants in those ads are the same or almost identical to McQueens pants above.
As for getting a pair now, it's ebay or have them made. You won't find that rise with modern Lee.
Welcome to the forum.
Sadly, I now associate Lee with Sports Direct that sells the brand. Is it another brand that fat Ashley has bought?
Them pants 2 lo rise. I seen him belly button. 2 lo rise.
However, being "king of the half sleeve," I do like that shirt. Looks even better off.
Liam,
Thank you very much for the info! I appreciate it and am once again amazed at the knowledge on this forum.
Cheers
I actually saw a pair of Levi's on ebay once that were that exact style - 'continental waistband', also lacking a back yoke. White tab, big E, not sure if they were sta-prest or not, but looked interesting.
The ones in those pics look like they're made from a Bedford cord. In the second pic where he's lying down you can see the faint ridges near the top of the trousers.
Always thought they were cord too. LVC did some cord sta-prest not that long ago. You might still be able find them. Similar taper, but with belt loops.
Same here - if you look in the book the are definitely a cord, bedford or needle - 90% sure the latter. Did they make a cord version of the leesures?

Nice find Woolster, but different pocket detail - so are the ones worn by McQueen in the above pictures Leesures?
I can't tell for sure, but I trust Liam knows his Lees.
That's the ones. Nice bit of detective work there, Tom!

Wow, didn't expect much more to come of this thread. Thank you guys for all of the detective work. I thought they might be cords as well because of the texture they had in the photographs and you can definitely see it in Claxton's book.
Interesting that someone made a copy. Wonder if those are able to be obtained. I was actually thinking of having copies made myself.
Thanks again gentlemen!!
Cheers
