Re: Leith Clothing, Bleeding Madras?

Did anyone ever buy a Leith Shetland jumper?

The weather is definitely the turn, so thinking about buying myself a new jumper.
They look good in the pictures but always keen to get some first hand feedback...

Re: Leith Clothing, Bleeding Madras?

I've got four - so think I can speak from experience when I say they are the very best!
Nice snug fit, heavy duty wool, knitted for them by Laurence Odie.
Recommend highly!

Jupp! I have two and they're great! Wished they would have a really deep navy one.

Re: Leith Clothing, Bleeding Madras?

Didn't get on too well with their hooped t-shirts but the Shetland I have is spot-on.

On the Shetlands? Nice and high and quite tight. Can be a struggle if you've a big bonce!

I had two in medium which were too tight and I had to sell on here.  Then I got 2 size larges and they were way too long so I tried putting them in the dryer and the side seams ended up twisting, making the stripes diagonal as opposed to horizontal.  Totally my fault for disregarding the washing instructions but I've never seen a t-shirt do that before.  I'm sure you'll be fine if you're thin/tall and cold wash on delicate.  I also had some bad luck with their last red large turning out to be shop-soiled then getting a green instead which turned out to be also shop-soiled.  They were very good about returns but evidently some quality control issues still being ironed out.  No issues with the shetlands as they're made elsewhere.

Re: Leith Clothing, Bleeding Madras?

Can only say good things about my leith hooped shirt. Indeed I'd be tempted to size up on the next one (length not an issue for me) but it has held its shape well, as well as collar and colour. I haven't be particularly careful with it - except hanging to dry (hanger up through the shirt so not to stretch collar) and no tumble drying.

Shetland's look perfect - I've no doubt all details you hope for in a shetland will be right. Like Sancho, wish there was a deep navy one. The salmon pink looks great.

Re: Leith Clothing, Bleeding Madras?

I think they're great. Roomy, not short on the sleeves like 99% of the other shirts out there. Great colors.

Just buy one. Haha, as simple as that.

The Shetlands are ace and it seems the Leith boys have gone on to the cable knit Shetland now...

I like the look of the cable knits Sid.  A purchase may be in the offing (subject to approval from the head of the House Purchasing Committee!)

Re: Leith Clothing, Bleeding Madras?

I like Leith - I have three of the Shetlands they're great - but I've never been a big fan of cable knits in general - they always looked a bit "square" for want of a better word.
Anyone got a picture of someone looking dead cool in one so I can change my (extremely fickle smile) mind on such matters ?

Re: Leith Clothing, Bleeding Madras?

Thanks Chief - yeah that's pretty nice - I think for me maybe it's the memories of wearing big heavy hand knitted Aran jumpers on holiday in Ireland or something that has turned me against patterns in wool

This reminds me that the folks on Summerisle sport a nice selection of Shetland sweaters, some cabled, some not ......

Sorry I'm just not a fan of horizontal stripes.

Apart from that it looks good.
