Re: The Spanish tinge...

I had the Spanish Tinge once. Took 3 courses of antibiotics to clear it up.

Thanks for starting the thread btw. I'm also interested in listening to more of this stuff but I'd be too lazy to start a thread.

Re: The Spanish tinge...

The Soul Jazz compilations are a good place to start on a vintage Bossa Nova hunt.

For a more modern take on Bossa,
Vinicius Cantuaria has made some great records with an avant-weird edge.
Timbalada do an interesting take on the Bahiain street music sound, their track 'Beja Flor' is probably the most well known.

Re: The Spanish tinge...

Fania has a couple of good boogaloo compilations that feature lesser known artists that are pretty solid also check out joey pastrana he's lesser known and only did 2 albums but he's pretty cool ... Ray Barreto I would start with his mid sixties records like acid and power before moving into deeper stuff.

Re: The Spanish tinge...

Rumbon Melon by Joey Pastrana is a monster!

Couple of really good comps that can probably be found cheaply: Mambo Mania and Mas Mambo Mania - very good overviews of the era.

Les McCann's "Bucket O' Grease" is a fun one. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gancWDVid7k) Recorded at Shelly's Manne-Hole in LA, I think.

Re: The Spanish tinge...

Had Tito Puente on earlier, which reminded me of the MAW Nuyorican Soul Album so had some of that in this lovely heat.

Willie Bobo is new to me, just put some on now, excellent stuff.
