I've stumbled upon that site before.  Never ordered.

I don't know why, but I'm always suspicious of terrible looking websites.

Bought one from this seller a couple of years ago, the tag says "Hawick Scotland". I am satisfied with it, however, it is my only shetland so have nothing to compare.

Re: I am after a new Shetland

Yes, I bought a crewneck from them a few years ago. Yell Sound blue is the color. I'm pleased with it. Sizing is on the small side. In alpha sizing I am just as often a large as a medium. I went with the large and I'm glad I did. It's definitely the size of my medium sized sweaters. I understand they also do knitting based on your measurements if you want to go that route.

I'm looking to order another from them. I want something red, but not pink, but also a bit heathered. Cardinal looks about right.

Re: I am after a new Shetland

I have heard nothing but good things about Spirit of Shetland. I want to give them a try as the price is right. I may go for alpha sizing as I fear so much could go wrong if I provide them with measurements. Here are two from Ask Andy Trad. One is Moorgrass and the other Salmon. I am thinking Salmon for me. I would like a pinkish shetland.

Yeah- I have been thinking about a Shetland and all I see recommended online is that Spirit of Shetland site as well...it seems lots of people are unhappy with Press' Scooby Doo, or whatever it's called...

Used. Look out for Scottish/Irish made Bean or BB. They have good flecking and are fairly hairy.
If you want new you need to spend money (£100) and the best I've seen in the past few years have been at JS.
Be careful about dealing direct with Knitters. I had a very costly experience with Anderson's last year.

I must say I got on fine with Anderson's, they were pleasant to deal with. I ordered the bog-standard 'double Everest'.

At what, 84 quid? An absolute steal for a garment of that quality.

That's a pity. I assume some models are made by various contractors - it would be interesting to know what you ordered.

A mill will have been operating for many decades at least and few will deny they know how to make a good sweater. If they ever skimped on quality control I'd expect the flaw to be pretty obvious and the the seller to put it right.

Sizing is a surprising criticism though - the number is the chest size of the garment, at least as far as Scottish knitwear is concerned. Sleeves too long or something?

AC, I ordered a few directly from Laurence Odie over the phone last year. Service was excellent, cheap delivery (and quick), and the price was as good as I have seen. Considerably cheaper than Anderson's. I also had a couple from JS and believe they are the same makers.

My two-penneth.

It was all documented on here last year, but in summary they sent a size 48 that was more like a 44. I returned it for replacement, only to have it sent back again as a size 48. The size 50 they sent after that was more like a knitted dress.  They don't have a clue what they're doing.

I'd agree with this. They're the former LJS. Possibly the best Shetland out there.

Yeah, I was intrigued and already did a search to find your posts. No excuse for that kind of sloppiness with the patterns, but I do think it's a run of exceptional bad luck. Did they at least give it up as a bad job and refund in the end?

^ They didn't. One remains in the wardrobe after 3 months on eBay, I managed to sell the other there for half price. That makes me at least £120 down.

I can tell they are Austrailian Ponies because they are overweight.
