Re: Tech Ivy

Blueprint 1968 continued:

starting with post #215:

... serious man delivering speech, possibly preaching a sermon, gesturing emphatically, clad in dark suit, plain white collar, striped repp tie, eyeglasses, and brush cut.

... next up note well the kid in the straw boater, black sunglasses, and nicely ragged gray sweatshirt with cut-off sleeves who's slicing chunks of watermelon and handing them out at some festivity ... also visible is a kid in a Rat Cap and we can glimpse another kid in a red-and-blue-paneled bucket beanie hat and a kid with a short-sleeved Navy sweatshirt.

... sweet young lady in an old-timey pinafore leans against an oak tree, in background is a a colorful round metal sign for Frostie root beer featuring its Santa Claus-like mascot.  Frostie, which was introduced in 1939 in Catonsville, Maryland, is still in existence as a cult brand.

... auburn-haired lass in a whipcord jacket and matching skirt ... she's married.  Good hair genes here.  Total keeper.

------------------------

Post #216:

... concerned-looking administrator or faculty member in a cotton natural-shoulder coat, true three-button model, printed Rooster-type tie with kind of a mod pattern, plain-collar white shirt, wire-rimmed spectacles.

... architecture professor standing in front of blueprints wears a dark worsted 3/2 sack, another plain-collar white shirt, another moddish tie, a white handkerchief pocket square, heavy black hornrims, quizzical little smile, lit cigarette in right hand.

... four administrators, top left is buzzcut man wearing black hornrims, dark checked sport coat with natural shoulders and narrow lapels (with lapel pin), white ocbd, black knit tie.  On his desk is a heavy black Bell rotary phone.  Photo to the right of an administrator who looks like a three-way-cross of LBJ, Jim Backus and Jack Lemmon. he's wearing what appears to be a light-colored natural-shoulder 3-button linen sack suit with flap pockets, short-sleeved white shirt with small plain collar, and necktie with wide bar stripe(s) ...

photo below that is of another administrator patiently posing for his shot and wearing a gray worsted three-button sack with perfect shoulders, older man's Ivy haircut, eyeglasses, white plain-collar shirt, black tie, flap pockets on suit jacket, the sleeves of which are a tad too long.

last photo shows a bald administrator in a white cotton three-button sack with flap pockets, two buttons on the sleeves, white short-sleeved ocbd with good collar roll, dark foulard tie, dark worsted trousers, holding his black eyeglasses in his left hand.

---------------------------------------

Post #219:

... super shot from behind of student in the art museum looking at good painting, his haircut is also museum-worthy as is his nice wool cardigan worn open, narrow pegged jeans, ribbed white crew socks, and penny loafers.  Very high marks to him.

... suave old-time-movie star-looking man with impressive pile of hair, pencil moustache, and arched right eyebrow looks like he had a rough night, he wears a good dark sport coat with darker stripes, dark trousers, Hush Puppies, white plain-collar shirt and probably a pale yellow (Tech colors are yellow and black) foulard necktie.

...  chem lab shot of student holding Pyrex flask, he wears a good short-sleeved plaid madras button-down collar shirt, college class ring, wristwatch with light-colored strap, clean mid-'60s side-parted hair, black hornrims, eyeglasses case in his shirt pocket, dark trousers.

... next is a shot from behind of a student seated before what appears to be a Fairchild Dumont oscilloscope, he is wearing a dark plaid button-down shirt with the button on the back of the collar and box pleat, Vitalis in his hair.

------------------------------

Post #220:

... older man in Shuron eyeglasses, dark 3/2 sack suit wth narrowish lapels and decent shoulders, white shirt, dark narrow tie, tie bar, black wingtips.

.... professor in Clubmaster-type glasses with impressive pompadour, dark worsted natural shoulder suit worn open and with white handkerchief "one-point" pocket square, white almost-spread collar shirt, black leather oxford shoes, black leather belt with plain rectangular buckle, and a hint of white shirt sleeve.

... prof in dark 3/2 sack with natural shoulders and narrow lapels, white tab collar shirt and narrow dark tie, tie bar, and black penny loafers.

... prof in mid-gray two-button sack, possibly wash and wear, tie with wide bar stripes, white shirt, Clubmasters

... younger faculty member in striped tweed good natural shoulder sack sport coat, white shirt, narrow tie.

... arms folded prof in sack suit, spread collar, narrow dark tie, Clubmaster-type eyeglasses.

More to follow.

I always eagerly anticipate your contributions, at which point I revisit the pics to see all the great things I initially overlooked.

Re: Tech Ivy

Thanks WM, the photos you've posted have been beyond awesome and we all appreciate them.  I envy these kids their clothing, which many of them would soon be trading for fatigues.

Excellent point. A sobering though in light of such seemingly carefree and cool style.

Re: Tech Ivy

Thanks again Stan. I was just thinking about all these Techies last night. For a brief, not so distant moment in time, the ivy goodness that really gets me all worked up was just brimming everywhere.  Like you have said, great warm weather inspiration.

Re: Tech Ivy

Stan!

As always, thank you for your astute and invaluable narration.  Looks like '69 is shaping up to be a good year at Tech too.

The picture of the guy with the huge shotgun is another telling indicator of how times have really changed.

Re: Tech Ivy

Yeah. The further back you go the less ivy you see. Plus, the picture quality suffers.  I'm not sure if this is due to the scanning or the originals.  But, I vow to present everything of interest to our humble forum here. And big thanks to you AC, for if not for you realizing the online scans existed I'd likely be spending every weekend hunting for more hard copies!!
