Mr. Stanshall's Very Own Thread -

He's my Dear Dear Friend and a friend to you and this forum too.

Let's delight him in return for all his wonderfulness !

I will start, offering him a nicely juicy roast chicken, a lovely crisp Pinot and this;  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnfhHamrULc

We got to praise him like we should.

What a super idea.  I'll always be grateful to Stan for introducing me to the fantastic "5" Royales.

Re: Mr. Stanshall's Very Own Thread -

Now that a decent interlude has passed I will be taking over this, my very own thread, and will use it to post random and not-so-random things I like and I hope some of you will like too.  Please do jump in and participate if you'd like.

Some things will have more of a connection to Ivy than others.

Anyway, here we go, let's start with one of the great guitar solos ....

Zappa/Beefheart/Mothers - Muffin Man (1975) from the Bongo Fury album:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-6U0ccc_Hg

The Mothers of Invention played at Yale in February 1969 and we played the hell out of his records there a decade later.

Here's something odd from the National Lampoon from 1970:

Stephen Stills - Nothin' to Do But Today (1971)

always really liked this one, evidently the Isley Brothers did too as they covered it on their classic '71 LP Givin' It Back ....

as a kid I appreciated the Southern prep Stills's wearing of football Skid marked underpants, which I could relate to a lot more than, say, Crosby's fringe-y Buffalo Bill suede numbers .....

Re: Mr. Stanshall's Very Own Thread -

off to the football game, hope I don't need the poncho, Ace Hardware not Sears or Mexican sadly but it is yellow .... cut a dash in the rain

so far it's been a happy day for gridiron results ....

forgive all sports-related digressions, I know some of the best and brightest here (WM) don't care about sports and neither do I except sometimes ... going with little bro and I'm late!

Go the U!

Updated 5 and a half hours later:  oh well it was fun anyway ... lots of rain swirling around, thoroughly wet, Wranglers sopping but no dye leaching out ... can't fumble and fumble and drop balls that would have been touchdowns and think you're gonna win ... these guys couldn't tackle anybody tonight and yet it was still a blast ....

a sea of ponchos for the late monsoon ....

the cheerleaders were outstanding and they get the MVP award on the night .... also the vendor of bottled water and lemon ices who kept shouting, "Waterboy! Bobby Boucher!"

Musical highlights: Jump Around, It Takes Two, and Apache (Jump On It) by the Sugar Hill Gang .....

Fellini's here in Atlanta cooks up pizzas like that.  At least they look like that.  Thin crust, mega greasy.
