very cool pictures, thank you! It's the greatest and last of its kind - a true gem. I do love how it attracts everyday people:families, couples, hipsters, old timers and even ivy prepsters are welcome at the Mai Kai.

The waitresses are not bad either

saying hi to the hot dog guys at Katz's and to the folks at Russ & Daughter where they always had the greatest smoked fish, pastries, and other most appetizing L.E.S. delicacies!

Russ and Daughters, a fine nosh indeed, like you say great smoked fish but try their chopped liver almost ethereal.

Most most most correct as usual Acton_Baby, there are only two places in the world I would ever buy that stuff from and of the two Russ & Daughters made the very best!  thanks!

Kudu - what a great label. I love everything Idris put out (although personally his disco stuff wasn't for me). Leo Morris, the Blue Note stalwart before he changed his name fact fans !

New Orleans drummers!  Check out young Mr. Leo Morris at age 16 smacking them in such a relaxed way on Fats's Blueberry Hill (1956):

Go Leo, go Antoine!

got a major New Orleans jones going now, the pics of po' boys started macon me hungry, and then this second line deal popped into my head, from the brilliant Georgia-meets-New Orleans rill thing:

Re: Mr. Stanshall's Very Own Thread -

look at the nutty prototype plexi Fender guitar Carl is holding in this '72 shot ... probably would be from the Holland sessions ..... also check out Ricky Fataar/Stig O'Hara on his Fender pedal steel ...... Al's got a nice white Telecaster and Blondie in the back is playing some kind of Gibsonesque semi-hollow-body but with an odd Fender neck .... all the Fender amps ... they clearly just got a load of free stuff from Fender which was hoping to line them up again ... seeing Al and Carl playing Gibsons never looked quite right to me .....

wish I'd gotten to see them in the '60s and '70s
