It would be interesting to hear your opinion about these. This for FNB and anyone else.

Re: Carlo franco ties!

I do not think I realized what defines quality in a tie until I purchased a CF tie. The silk is great and it makes a nice knot. In addition, some of the ties are on sale now. You can purchase one of the lines, which is going to be discontinued, for $65.

Re: Carlo franco ties!

Serious price hike there to $165 from $100!?
Where is that club tie they were going to make?

Re: Carlo franco ties!

I have never seen a Carlo Franco tie up close so I have no idea about the quality of the construction and the fabrics but the styles are one of the ugliest selections I have ever seen.

Re: Carlo franco ties!

I don't know anything about the construction of their ties -- but I don't care for fashion of them at all.

But then again, you're talking to a guy who wears Brooks, Press and Chipp ties.

Gimme a solid, dot or stripe with a boring, plain repp weave anyday.

Re: Carlo franco ties!

The patterns on these ties are atrocious.  They remind me of bad style from the 1980s.  I am sure that the make is OK, but really, who cares when they look like that.

Re: Carlo franco ties!

I saw their collection in New York a few weeks ago and while not every tie was to my taste it would be hard NOT to find something you liked.  Usually you see a dozen seven folds in a high end store if you are lucky.  They had 150 or so and the variety was amazing.  I caught them early on Friday and had a fun visit with them.  Chuck is a little fanatical when it comes to weaving and construction issues, Jill is more of the design specialist.  I asked a lot of dumb questions and got very long and detailed answers from Chuck.  In all honesty I had never given much thought to how silk was dyed, woven, cut, lined and sewn into a piece of neckwear and in all honesty I don't care all that much.  What I liked was the fact that he had thought about those issues to a degree I found a little obsessive perhaps but somehow quaint.  I liked the idea of someone obsessing that much about thier work.  The construction is what you would expect from someone that anal compulsive about quality.  Every detail of the construction had purpose and had been thought out meticulously.  It turns out that he doesn't have a background in fashion but a graduate degree in engineering and he overthinks the boring details in the manner you'd expect from a boring engineer.  Thier old series they are clearing out is good but compared to their current work it is really ordinary.  The newer tie silks are pretty amazing and unlike anything I've seen elsewhere.  Nobody tried to sell me on anything but I left with a few ties that Jill recommended for the outfits I described.  Chuck's construction dissertation was interesting and all that but I was really only interested in what Jill thought since she focuses more on coordinating outfits.

Okay, in all honesty, Jill has incredible jade green eyes that really made me resent Chuck a great deal, I would have purchased whatever she told me to.  On second thought, I really don't like Chuck very much.  She should probably dump him for a slightly balding attorney.

Re: Carlo franco ties!

All this discussion in another thread about the fascinating Neopolitan look has me wondering about whether carlo franco ties fit in with the Neopolitan aestheic?
