Actually it is true, the longer the inseam the longer the rise.

Re: Wrangler Beater Jeans - Some Help Please!

^ those Wranglers are from 1964ish, a response to the White Levi's craze on the West Coast.
Actually a 'Big Ben' product rebadged by BlueBell as a Wrangler product.

They are not 'denim' as we would think of it but a lighter brushed sanforized twill ( note that Etsy listing describes them as chambray), much lighter fabric (9oz as opposed to the 13oz of the 13mwz) and prone to slubs and bobbles in the fabric also no rivets to reduce the cost/labour.

The Pennys Ranchcraft jeans were made by Lee ( the half selvedge outseam and 'corner cross' stitch on the waist patch are the giveaways here), a good find but they do suffer from 'seam twisting',  like some 501 models, as the outseams will twist across the front of the leg.

Re: Wrangler Beater Jeans - Some Help Please!

^ Cheers HOOT, very interesting.

Doesn't seem to match my experience of them,
I've a few of pairs of the UK (Glasgow) made ones in (originally)rigid and white denim (from the early 2000s)  and they are all at the lower end of the measurements ( in fact the 32w/32 and 34w/32 have the exactly same top block measurements) whereas as my US made ones are all at the higher end of the scale independent of inseam easurements in both the denim and twill versions ( with about a quarter inch variation across the ones I own in 30,32 and 34 inseam which is much smaller than the range in the Wrangler chart ).
I experimented with a batch of the rigid as they were so cheap at Sheplers to try to find which length worked best post shrinkage.

Wowzas! Great stuff Acton!

Sid, I doubt I'll spring for those Wranglers afterall, based on Acton's description above. I would've definitely had them tapered from the knees down otherwise, but that's precisely why I posted that the numbers weren't exactly doin' it for me. I suppose they'd be a cool lighter-weight alternative for the summer months though.

Re: Wrangler Beater Jeans - Some Help Please!

Acton, what's this 13MWZ Silver Edition that I'm seeing on Shelpers in X5 Dark Denim?

Also, has anyone seen any of the Premium Wash jeans in person? Not that I'd buy 'em myself, I'm just curious...

I decided that I want to order a second pair to compare with my Ranchcraft jeans, which were obviously more expensive. If the cut of the Wranglers works out better, I'll end up returning the eBay purchase. Right now I've got the 13MWZ Original Fit Rigids in a 34/36 in my shopping cart. I'm a 32-33 waist at best, but these should shrink like my 936 Rigids, right?

HOOT, who did you write to for that size chart? I'd really like to see that for their raw denim too. I'd prefer to not have to hem if possible... I called the other day and the customer service rep. had no clue about the relationship to inseam and rise on any model.

^ slightly heavier custom denim, a different rear pocket badge (black and silver) and different card details on the 'silver edition'.

Black denim - disliked by some - at £16.  Soft yet still heavy.  Currently on a 'freshen-up' wash before being left on a wooden clothes-horse to dry naturally.  Allegedly made in the USA, though there is no evidence for this on the jeans themselves.  Will be worn, simply, around the house with whatever comes to hand.
