Re: The Neat Offensive - JS doc.

I am aware of some of the different academic discourses around the term but to me it is mainly an academic problem.

You can, of course, never talk about postmodernism without defining modernism first. Thus your definition of it is always depending on a definition of modernism that contains an inherent paradoxon. Modern is about NOW!

Re: The Neat Offensive - JS doc.

Maybe that's the problem about historizing and about defining terms such as modernism and enlightenment, classicism and romanticism, realism, naturalism, symbolism, avant-garde... These terms do not only have a historical meaning even though we immediately associate most of them with certain ages.

It always depends on the context. Modern and Modernism means a lot of different things in philosophy, art, history, literature, music, architecture, design etc... With pomo it's similar. Though it's right that it comes from architecture, and that's where it makes sense the most, I guess. A clumsy way of describing a reaction against certain trends in modernist architecture.

I always got on well with Andy especially on the PM network. Wouldn't mind seeing him back in the least, in whatever guise.

Who was Andy B? It seems he made a reappearance not too long ago and I asked this very question, but it's escaping me to if I'm right or not.

Andy B was a great participator in the forum, but was manipulated into an unhealthy frenzy of confrontation and combined with problems in the real world, he seemed to go over the edge.

He saw forum posting as an adversarial pastime where he had to win whatever. He was homophobic and thought guys would get very upset if he implied they were homosexual, then got even more annoyed when it didn't bother them smile

hahaha.  The biggest burn to homophobes everywhere.  Man, I'd play that shit up in school.  Some hick would call me a queer and then I'd blow a kiss at him or wink.  It's a wonder they didn't find me out alone somewhere and beat me to a pulp.

Re: The Neat Offensive - JS doc.

I chatted with Andy B on the phone he was you're  standard no bullshit Yorkshireman it was him that warned me to Jim early on and his meltdown was mainly connected to finding out Jim was a complete bullshitter he turned on the people that supported Jim because he saw us as being blind to what was happening. Aside from this though he was one of those pompous types his way or the highway but strangely  generous too.
