Re: Tropical ivy

Can anyone explain why, as in the picture above, so many lightweight fabric suits like seersucker or linen have patch pockets that are really big and so far back on the jacket.  I have a sixties vintage linen jacket that has pockets almost exactly the same shape and size of the ones on the above drawing.  Practically on the side of the jacket.  Was that just the style then, or is there some other reason?

Is it for carrying your suntan oil and swimming trunks?

Re: Tropical ivy

Seersucker is / was sportswear (for attending sports events)... So it very often has patch pockets... I guess that pic is from the 40s - sporty suits were very fashionable back then. I suppose the practical purpose wasn't an issue anymore, just like 1960s suits with hacking pockets. Nobody with a suit that has got hacking pockets goes riding or hunting in it...

Re: Tropical ivy

I will be taking slide film with me on my vacation: loading up my trusty old Leica Minilux and Nikon 28Ti, I may well go down well with ladies of a certain age. In fact, I need to get some more film tomorrow, so that post has reminded me Doghouse, thanks.

I will packing my tropical gear Saturday afternoon, ready for the wake-up call sharp at 2am on Sunday morning.

A couple of hours later I will be fully induced into the delights of the half-board inclusive canteen eating and kids disco. Oh, happy days!
