Re: Tropical ivy

I miss Miami... cruising down the A1A at sunset with a palm hedged backdrop of coral evanescent clouds stretched across a soft-hued horizon, eclipsed by the warm pink moon... the curving tropical Deco towers and pastel surfside streamlined moderne bungalows... drifting through the colorful streets of Little Havana in my grandparent's oversized '97 white Lincoln Town Car with Mighty Mongo's torrid conga-beat battering the speakers, searching for a cheap plate of slow-stewed ropa vieja with homemade frijoles negros and sweet fried plantains... lazy lunches along the intracoastal of cracked conch, fresh line-caught mahi sandwiches and blackened grouper steaks while tossing leftovers to the hungry tarpons and pelicans... roadside key limes under the shade of old citrus groves... the smell of sunscreen, cypress and sea air... torch-lit tropical nights at the Mai-Kai under A-framed thatch-roofed canopies with the soft glow of colored lights cast across turquoise lagoons, and the rhythmic impulses of forbidden pagan jungle rites pulsating from exotic Denny-Lyman-like jazz grooves over the hypnotic swirl of cascading waterfalls... gently ebbing further from perception aboard large ceramic vessels inscribed by the tiki gods of the South Pacific while sinking into an enchanted sea of dark island rums from faraway ports... colossal stone claws in frothy whipped mustard sauce... and of course, hanging with Stansh... I want to go right now!!!

Date and time.  Don't put it past me.  I could use a few hours on the open road.

Re: Tropical ivy

I wish we were stanshy... doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon though. we're in LA over the holidays and then we're grounded until march (flying to new orleans for 10 nights and checking out beachbum berry's new tiki bar!) but next time we're down south I'm getting in touch with WM and we're making this happen!!! the barbancourt trio ride the tradewinds!

Re: Tropical ivy

/\ crazy list as always

I'm also a big fan of New Orleans in the summer, which is overwhelmingly hot but extra-funky

not too hot for this Swamp Yankee though

In New Orleans I like to go out for alcoholic breakfast, then take a nap, then take a swim, then go for lunch, then
take another swim, another nap, then go for cocktails, then go to dinner, then get a nightcap, and repeat

Just wandering the Quarter and looking at houses and walking underneath the balconies and covered walkways

Re: Tropical ivy

You must never stare into a mirror in New Orleans while Iko Iko is playing

It's a good idea to have a mojo bag with you when you're down there

also: that place has a bit of a vampire problem

but it's all about the bread and the daube and the debris, sausage, and dirty rice and frosty spirits

food's too good to fill up on beer, weather's too hot for wine, I have to have cold booze on ice

and plenty of it ...

I have supported Barbancourt since 1980 .... It was the only Haitian export for years

and Rawlings baseballs but not to get sidetracked

P.S. Ollie check out the wild rums they have at Greenblatt's when you're in Hollywood

Have we discussed Greenblatt's rare roast beef with Russian dressing on a kaiser?
