Re: Groundhog Madras

Oh, by the way, pants will start at around $350 per pair.  You still want two pairs?

Re: Groundhog Madras

I hadn't really been following this thread closely again, no disrespect intended, but I did notice the names of the Beach Boys, James Brown, and Miles Davis in a preceding post.

Anyway those are three of my favorite jazz and pop singers.

Re: Groundhog Madras

^ I see you'll be charging a sensible price then.

Just a note on costs for khakis , if you order 30 pairs from Hertling they come in at about $72 wholesale (less than 30 pair pushes the price over the $100 wholesale) for the classic G+L Cramerton cavalry twill.
Import costs to the UK have stopped me from going further with this, as the proposed retail price started to look a bit nosebleed for what is perceived by many as a 'beater' product.

Re: Groundhog Madras

Is it the duty or the shipping that's so expensive? Can't you find a loophole around such high import costs by having them "finished" in the UK, i.e. sewing the buttons on?

Re: Groundhog Madras

So $155 plus shipping per pair retail would have you reaching for your wallet or on the fence?

Acton, you recall a further price break on larger quantity?

Re: Groundhog Madras

$170 is just too much.  I wouldn't feel good about charging that.  I feel 155 is high.

Re: Groundhog Madras

For chinos like the thorough stitch ones, I probably would be prepared to go $155  - what's that, about £90 odd?

But the shipping and duty on top would put me off.

Re: Groundhog Madras

It there a hope you guys getting 100% behind one business model for madras?

Would there be interest among members of buying the madras as piece goods, for instance? That way you can get exactly what you want in the way of a shirt at a reasonable price?

For a retail clothing business, it'd be 5 years before you could expect to be positively cash flowing; 7 before you could even think about turning a profit. You'd have to finance it for 5 years, which means you have to do so yourself as getting investment for a start-up clothing business would be virtually impossible. Even if you could, you'd be giving away 50% of the profits for it.

I asked Bob Kidder for pictures of collars. He'd require an order of 20 shirts to make a particular collar, however. (4 each of SM, M, L, XL, 2XL).

While you guys may prefer a BB collar, in the US at least what sells is the Borrelli.

All this talk about chinos is quite confusing.

Re: Groundhog Madras

Do 20 people on here want BB collars?

NES makes a shirt that Charlie Davidson buys. In the world of Ivy there is no more revered figure.

If it's good enough for him, then it should be for you guys?

Re: Groundhog Madras

Man, you're really putting us up against the wall...

Go ahead and put me down for BB collar and short sleeves.  I need short sleeves on this bad boy.  Or I could just get them chopped off.  So, if we reach critical mass, I'll just pull the trigger.

...for $125 dollars, that is.
