Bungalow, ha ha ha! Indeed.
...I've been trying to forget this particular record for the last 26 years Acton.
Sincere apologies for jogging your noggin.

^No sir well played , it's a good un to have in the bank to save for any hardcore Weller fans smile
I remember being given a DAT of the then unreleased (and about to be rejected by his label) 'Modernism: A New Decade'  and believe it or not 'Promised Land' was the one of the better tracks, the rest of the album was truly shocking.

Re: Who's in the house!

Weller went wrong earlier, on the infamous orange album, that was back in '87. Recorded in during '86.

I actually liked Promised Land, didn't even bother with Confessions.... at the time, but I can dig a lot of it now. But I thought the current revisionist history of the period has Weller as predicting the electronic dance music in Modernism: A New Decade and that Polydor were wrong to ditch TSC?

In any event he had lost me by then and I rememer when I was at Liverpool Poly studying Literature, Life & Thought, no one even knew who Weller was, just one or two of us who contributed to the student magazine Shout!, everyone else had taken to a goth-like path of indie music with a bit of Neil Young and Leonard Cohen thrown in. I consider that period 89-93 one long episode of Rising Damp, I am not talking about the scripts, I mean the ambience of the mise-en-scene: all dour with minced meat, cabbage and mashed potatoes as the dish of the times. Even the drugs were shite: they were all smoking cannabis resin and that was it!

Re: Who's in the house!

...so, it was shite then?
In contrast I was lucky enough to spend my college years living around Salford, Manchester between 1986 and 1989 and despite the damp, mice, poverty they were happy times until the thugs began to mess it all up.
The final nail in the House coffin for me was Mr. Weller and a return back home to Hull.
