Which is best – wool or cotton men's dress socks?
Each of these yarn fibers has pros and cons. Merino Wool socks breathe and are amazingly comfortable to wear. Until you get temperatures up in the 90’s, merino wool socks should be comfortable on your foot. Wool also holds its color very well, even after repeated washings. Our Peruvian Pima cotton is a very soft fiber that makes socks soft as butter to the touch – most people are surprised when they first touch our Pima sock. The fibers are long which gives the sock surprising strength and durability. All cotton fibers that have been dyed will slowly lose their color as they are repeatedly washed. You can extend the color life by following the washing tips listed below. Many of our customers have both our merino wool socks and Peruvian pima cotton men's dress socks in their sock drawer.
Which is best - Mid Calf or Over the Calf length?
The fit of these two lengths is quite different. A Mid Calf dress sock for men is designed to be pulled a bit higher than a crew length but should not be pulled up onto the meaty part of the calf. If you want the calf of your leg to have sock coverage you should be wearing Over the Calf length. If you have a large calf you should try the Over the Calf length.
What if my shoe size is below or above your 8-12 range?
Our socks are knit to National Hosiery Manufacturer Association standards. As with most US manufacturers, our dress socks for men are knit to a size 8 but have stretch nylon which allows them to stretch to fit someone who wears up to a size 12 shoe. If you wear a size 13 shoe or larger you should be searching for King Size socks, which we do not sell at this time. If you are 7.5 shoe size you will probably find the socks a tad roomy.
How can I tell my blacks socks from my midnight navy socks?
In bright light, take two socks that you can’t tell for sure which color they are and put something grey in between them. If one sock is navy you should be able to notice the color is lighter than the black sock and blue coloration should become more prominent . Also, we are adding a light blue toe seam to our Navy styles.
How can I tell my black merino wool socks from my black Peruvian pima socks?
Hold up the socks to a bright light. If the socks look a little fuzzy around the edge, they are wool. Cotton socks tend to maintain a very smooth look over time. A wool sock is also a little rougher in feel than the softer Peruvian pima cotton sock.
How should I care for my Boardroom Socks?
The best way to get the full life out of your men's dress socks is to follow a few simple rules when washing them. First, don’t wash your nice Boardroom socks with stiff, rough fabrics like jeans. The rubbing of jeans on socks is hard on the sock fibers and color. And never wash your socks with towels or other fabrics that have lint. Always wash like colors together.
What temperature should I use to wash my socks?
You want to use warm water – although the socks won’t shrink, hot water is harder on the sock fibers and color than a warm wash temperature.
Should I use bleach when I wash my dress socks?
Never bleach your Boardroom Socks!!
When the socks arrived they looked like they had been ironed into a shape. The shape went away when they were washed. Is this a problem?
Not at all. The ironed shape you see when they arrive in the mail occurs during the boarding process when they are at the finisher. This is part of the final manufacturing process, and they are indeed heated with something like a steam iron. It just makes them look great! After you wash them the socks lose that ironed look, revert to the knitted shape and then stretch out as necessary to fit your foot when you put them on. And of course they still look great on your feet.
Will my socks bleed their color in the washer?
No, your Boardroom Socks will not bleed their color in the washer.
I love my dog but not dog hair on my nice Boardroom Socks? How do I get it off my socks?
A lint brush does a good job of removing dog hair and other small bits of lint from your socks.
Careful heppie - I think our Dear Leader FNB might approve of the tie.
