Love the Bat Day shot.
Imagine the drunken fights afterwards if they lost?
/\ or if they won ....
^ They look like Lester Maddox customers.
A proper good old boy. Unusual brow line spectacles and steadfast in sticking to his principles. A precursor to Dirty Harry in some ways.
Federal laws put him out of business in the end.

/\ it's Cincinnati. got nothing to do with Lester Maddox or Dirty Harry, it was all about Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Lee May and Bobby Tolan that year .....
but you knew that already ... they were one season away from becoming the Big Red Machine
which really kicked in when they got Joe Morgan before the '72 season, natch .....
the Reds left Crosley Field, which is pictured here, in the middle of the next season.
on our way out the door to see the Dodgers tonight, got to hit the good hot dog place beforehand, the dogs at the park don't cut the mustard ......
A little film about Ebbets Field, one of a series on You Tube:

Bloody sporting franchises, last thing they care about are the fans.
Anyway,
Great vid, thanks Woof.
Such a shame the cheerleaders aren't mentioned 9 pages in on this thread. Womens sport is all to often overlooked. So purely in the interest of promoting college girls in skimpy customs climbing on top of each other and shaking it...

Mrs Woof and I have tickets for Chicago Cubs v Milwaukee Brewers on 22/09/15. Now I gather this is a bit of a local derby, so will we need to take any precautions for our personal safety?
This is a look at my favourite fixture:

Been to a few Phillies games (used to spend a lot of time there at one stage) and also been to Sox and Mets games, only seen the phillies go mental afterwards. Police seemed content to sit back and laugh.
That is sound advice Stan.
/\ have fun Woof, baseball games are a blast, the key is to let your mind wander and attention drift, then snap back into focus when someone gets a hit, look at the replay on the screen, and pretend that you didn't miss it ... the rule is that the best plays of the game occur while you're waiting in line for something but you know that .....
it is also fun to listen to the vendors in the stands yell indecipherably .....
we had an Ernie Banks Louisville Slugger bat forever, I still have it ....
here's Mr, Cub Ernie Banks hitting home runs 498, 499, and 500:

here's some classic Cubs baseball action from 1969, they had a good team that year, with Ferguson Jenkins on the mound, Ernie Banks playing first base, Leo Durocher in the dugout
... old NBC Game of the Week, Curt Gowdy announcing ... this is All-American stuff my friend.
numerous HOF'ers and All-Stars on the field for both teams

Woof, since you're going to Wrigley, definitely drink plenty of "Old Style" beer and you'll become a Chicagoan on the spot. And definitely get some hot dogs from "Hot Doug's," a recent concession addition at Wrigley, they are delicious.
When it comes down to it, just drink plenty of beer, eat a lot, and enjoy the game: it's truly American leisure at its finest, and I mean that in the best way. There are few things more enjoyable than watching baseball in the summer sun (or at night).
Also, wear a Cubs hat and you won't have anything to worry about.
