Shetlands

What are your recommendations on decent crew neck Shetland sweaters, looking to get one in navy, one in biscuit or oatmeal and one in a bolder colour like kelly green. Have a few lambswool sweaters and an Alan Paine shetland already, but looking for something that won't bobble too badly and will keep it's shape.

Re: Shetlands

Liam suggested NorNova from Scotland to me, but it is hard to getin contact with them... He bought their sweaters on country fairs and wanted to send me some, but then... I should try to get in contact with them again...

Re: Shetlands

I had a good experience with spirit of Shetland a few years ago. You can give them measurements if necessary. I have an average body so off the rack alpha sizing is almost always fine for me. I did size up to a large from my normal medium with them though and it fit very well. A medium would have been too tight and that's not good with a Shetland in my opinion. I do not know how much more it is to do a mtm.

I also bought a grey Shetland from ll bean. It looks good and it was about $40 as I remember. The quality of the spirit of Shetland is better but also three times the cost.

I was going to do a burgundy cardigan from spirit with their "cardinal" color, but then bean has a burgundy cardigan and it is much more cost friendly. Still want to do another shetland from spirit in a natural tone. Should probably do it soon. When I did my previous order it was October and they said they were swamped with orders and it took 6 weeks to get mine. August might be less busy.

Re: Shetlands

Done a few searches on here, are Anderson's as inconsistent as they sound? What about Laurence J Smith?

Re: Shetlands

One more question:

It's been forever since I bought a new shaggy dog; what's the sizing like?

Would you recommend S/M for an average size 38 (5'9" approx 145lbs)?

Re: Shetlands

I would size up. Shaggy Dogs don't look good when they are tight.

Re: Shetlands

Jose, they're a traditional fit aren't they?

(I never wear anything tight)

As long as they haven't been trimmed up in recent years, I remember size small being a "full cut" for lack of better description. I think we're about the same size; what do you take?

Re: Shetlands

The small shaggy dog is a maybe a hair (pun intended) big for me.  It works however, and is especially great for hiding a thick OCBD under.

Re: Shetlands

I take a medium. The small ones are too tight on the chest for me but the medium wears really baggy on the waist- which I prefer. Try the small and if for some reason you feel is too tight on the chest, size up to a medium.

Re: Shetlands

First post here, been lurking for a while. On the subject of Shetlands, I've a Laurence J Smith and it's great, very comfortable but doesn't have saddle shoulders. Superdenim are pretty much out of them atm but hopefully should restock this winter. Having said that, thinking of getting a Harley next, seems a bit more rugged than the LJS perhaps.

Re: Shetlands

Where do people source these brands from? I'm really struggling to find any links for Laurence J Sith, Lawrence Odie or Mcgeorge! I was under the imppresion JSA use Laurence Odie, but that's still £129 and I believe I can source it cheaper than that ?
