+1 on Santa Barbara.  A beautiful town.

You can still find pockets of Googie architecture in Florida.  But it's often run down and what's inhabiting the space is usually something like a dentist or tax office - nothing fun like a coffee, doughnut shop, or restaurant.

A British slant on the diner; the Regency Cafe in Pimlico, London as seen through the eyes of two charming young lady tourists:

The Regency has featured in numorous films where the director wants a bit of instant old school London atmosphere. The counter lady Claudia has a drill instructors voice but is very softly spoken and demure when she serves you. It's just around the corner from where I work but I try not to go there too often for waistline reasons.

Here are some golden oldies. Mostly gone but not forgotten

Euro was near Piccadilly Circus. Bar Italia does not count in my book, as it is a poseur/ponce magnet. Hoxton twat clientele means disqualification.

Used to use New Piccadilly and Alpinos up near The Angel. Golden Fish on Fridays. All gone now.

River cafe outside Putney Bridge Tube is still going strong and is a belter though. Andrews is still going too good nosh but slight refit.

Walked past University Cafe in Byres Road Glasgow a few weeks ago to go to a fancy restaurant and Tennents pub.

Scarborough ice cream parlour is a good one too.

The lady and I were talking about this just last night.  The Food Network is a big joke at this point.  I guess people just want to watch garbage, so they're fed garbage.
