^ Worse than Satan,
His reputation is shocking amongst other chefs,
steals recipes (with out crediting or paying the originator) and re-negs on charity donations/appearances with an alarming regularity.
He hasn't been filming in New Orleans recently as the rumour is there is a price on his head for 'pissing off' a local business on his last visit with 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives'.

It really bugs me how he'll just stick his chubby little fingers into the food the chef is preparing to get a little taste: "mmmm bro, now THAT is how we please on triple ds."

Uhm... You know the cook probably actually wants to serve that 4 gallons of sauce to his actual customers, GUY!

Somehow Oliver has managed to eat at more places in LA, a town he doesn't even live in, than I have eaten at in my home town.  I am rather lazy though and tend to visit the same places repeatedly.

Re: Coffee bars, diners, forgotten roadside eateries

I'll refrain from posting about NOLA, other than to say that I'm excited for Jeff Barry's new tiki bar to open there next year and plan to return for a visit when that happens. I could go on for another 10 pages otherwise. We were actually talking about Arnaud's and Galatoire's last night at dinner...

Right, near Solvang. It's about an hour South of The Hitching Post which is right below Pismo Beach.

Solvang is a funny place to hang for a day! Such a unique spot.

Stan, between you and Ollie, I now have my next 5 West Coast itineraries nailed down!  Plan is to arrive with a fat wallet, leave with a fat gut.

Re: Coffee bars, diners, forgotten roadside eateries

I still can't clear my inbox. I can only get PMs from moderators fro some reason; not sure what that's about.

Go to Canters for the atmosphere, not the food. It's not bad but it's no great shakes either. It's the criterion for Old Hollywood delis though. It's an institution. Nate 'n Al is B-grade pastrami but their other dishes are all really good. Their sandwiches are better than Canter's or Greenblatt's but they don't compare to Langer's.

Dan Tana's seems like it's more of a scene for regulars who like to get sauced at the bar with b-listers than anything else. The Italian comfort food in canned sauce is bland. The Dabney Coleman is good but overpriced. The decor is more 1980's than mid century and I can't get behind the trendiness and overly long lines. I also have a strong antipathy towards bars with TVs. I don't hate Dan Tana's but I don't really have to go back anytime soon. If they took down the stupid christmas lights and sports decals, dimmed the lighting, ditched the television, it could have potential...
