Prompted by SenorBlues post about 'The Gentry Man' book,
Anymore suggestions for the book shelves of the board members ?
Its got to be Hollywood and The Ivy Look just for the pictures alone.
I would also throw in the complete set of Georgia tech blue prints.
'Icons of Men's Style' by Josh Sims.
An enjoyable romp through 20th century menswear, origin stories of some specific 'ivy' items and some great repro advertising pics/copy.
Makes a few dubious links between styles and celebrities plus it sometimes gets the decades/eras out of kilter occasionally.
But a nice addition to your shelves.
'100 Years of Menswear' by Cally Blackman
Again not 100% Ivy but a great look at the 20th Century through mens clothes and shoes (the latest edition has the Steve McQueen in a G9 natural colour 'harrington' on the cover).
Both books are by Lawrence King Publishing, who do some nice architecture and design books as well.
Like every book by William Claxton: Steve McQueen, Jazz Seen, Jazz West Coast, Jazzlife, The Art Of Jazz Photography.
^ It looks like the library will have a 'Claxton Corner'.
A couple of huge prints of his work on the walls, a reading chair with a side table and a shelf for the books.
Yeah, too bad at this point it would cost you a small fortune to collect his hardbacks.
It is not very unlikely that we all have a lot of books in common.
Clax books are great.
Although pretty obvious, I'd add "Take Ivy" and "The Ivy Look". The Jazz cover books by Graham Marsh - Blue Note Covers I and II, East Coast, California Cool.
The Leroy Grannis book Surf Photography of the '60s and '70s is another must have for those seeking a splendid display of the Socal surf scene in its heyday. Not "ivy" per se, but it does include a lot of the tropical Socal style we know and love. Again, not cheap at this point to find a good condition hardback edition of the big wide format rectangular coffee table version.
Dirt cheap last time I looked is The Real Mad Men - I made a thread on it.
I own 100s of books, most of which I've read at least once. I've even had a book of my own published a few years ago (as some of you may recall).
For the hardcore jazz lovers "The sound I saw" by Roy DeCarava. Posers place it first on their string shelf.

Lifestyle Illustrations Of The 1960s, by Rian Hughes. Pages and pages of excellent illustrations drawn mostly from magazines of the time, and so seldom seen if at all, unless you own the original mags. The variety is great.

Any suggestions for novels? I remember a post some time ago that mentionned Hangover Square and London Belongs To Me. Enjoyed both, especially the latter. I've just finished Stover At Yale (Owen Johnson) now and got through Bullet Park before (John Cheever).
Recently read Treasure of the Sierra Madre, which I thought was excellent. If you like Cormac McCarthy you'll love it.
