With autumn just round the corner I’ve been thinking about purchasing a pair of Red Wing boots (or another moc toe equivalent) in preparation.
My quandary is about Red Wing’s sizing.
I am a UK Sz. 9 or a US10EEE in a Bass Weejun or a Florsheim US9 1/2 EEE.
Does anybody have any suggestions about which Red Wing size would fit me best?
Any suggestions would help greatly.
Thank you!
Their UK sizes are a whole size up from their US sizes. Personally I wish I'd sized down when I got mine, as mine are too big. Good if I need 2 pairs of socks I suppose.
i had to size down half a size for my red wing to fit.
When I bought my old pair the shop assistant sold me a size down (US7) and it took me those 15 years to figure out when they never stretched out! I got the correct size the second time and lucked out getting them for only £100 from John Lewis as they were the Horween tannery model and Redwing had moved to S. B. Foot by then so even though it was the same boot last, the model number changed to reflect the different leather.
Big, big thanks fellas.
Having read your comments and after a little nose around I've found the general consensus is to size down by half.
I have now presently a pair of half sized down boots in the post as I type. Fingers crossed they fit.
I'll let everybody know the outcome once they arrive and have been tried on.
Again, big thanks.
I'm 8.5 D in virtually every shoe, but I had to go down to 8 D in the Red Wings. That's US sizes.
I have my usual US size 9 in Red Wings (9111 round toe model). True to size.
they're true to size but a wide EEE fit, which if, like me, you have gargantuan plates is a real boon. if not maybe sizing down half a size might not be a bad idea.
I wear E width US shoes, and I wish I hadn't sized down. Red Wing lasts are pretty narrow.
Blimey - lot of conflicting info here eh? hahahaha
Chris, i'm sure the one's you got will be fine, they are great boots.
Well, my Red Wing moc. toes arrived in super speedy time from ASOS today.
They are a US 9 1/2 D and they fit pretty good bearing in mind I am usually 10 E or EE in other US fittings.
My suggestion is to size down by half.
Anyway, here's a nifty little review some of you may find informative:

Thanks for the advice and suggestions fellas!
From my experience of selling Red Wings , just before they relaunched with their hipster orientated marketing :
They usually came up large at/under a size 10 but fairly true to size over a 11, but some models of the mocc-toe style shoes/boots were just huge (this wasn't even connected to width fitting either).
The width fitting was always 'stickered over' on the box for export models (but always printed under the tongue or on the inner sidewall depending on the style of shoe) so you'd have to dig through every pair to get their actual size, and a high proportion were EE or EEE widths.
You could get an almost identical shoe from Chippewa for less than half price wholesale of the Red Wing model.
Unfortunately that's been ruined now by Chippewa putting excessive branding on the outside of their boots.
They also have a huge catalogue of 'contract and uniform' shoes but only available in the USA (tried and failed to get some exported for 3 consecutive years),
It's mostly police/military and government issue type stuff, probably the most well known from this stuff is the crepe soled 'postman' shoe/chukka which crossed over to their current more fashion orientated range.
Oh, it seems Asos went down pricewise... They are only 5 Euros cheaper now... About EUR 279,-- (classic Moc Toe)
True
Btw Asos dropped the price. They cost the same now as here or in Germany...
