Re: Red Wing Boots.

ZarJazz and Acton_Baby,

Yeah, I admit the soles on my Red Wings have quite the tread! wink But frankly, I've always preferred the Vibram lug sole to the white wedge sole (aesthetic reasons). Too bad the other Red Wing moc toe boots don't offer it. sad

I like the white wedge sole, it is also made by Vibram btw... But it is easy to change that anyway. I thought about getting my own white soles replaced with a classic Vibram Gumlite sole when it is time...

Re: Red Wing Boots.

The Vibram commando on my old RW's lasted forever, still had the same sole unit on when I sold em. Also not a fan of the white wedge, another reason I went for Beckmans when buying a new pair, and living in Hipsterville the white sole is a little too ubiquitous.

Re: Red Wing Boots.

I like the Beckman chukka.  I was considering a pair for a while as a more casual everyday companion to the 875 work boots.  I like the 875s, but feel weird wearing them outside their appropriate setting, which in my view is, well, hard work and outside chores.  The Beckman, I feel, could be worn frequently as a casual boot.

Re: Red Wing Boots.

Nothing beats a Vibram commando sole, if it's good for mountaineers, it's good enough for me. The commando soles on my Beckmans suck, they're really slippery on wet rock, and deadly on ice.

Red Wing chukkas... I've often thought about getting a pair, but leaving home, I would probably choose desert boots and Sanders Playboys over them.

Re: Red Wing Boots.

Glad you're happy ZJ...
I do have a pair of Vibrams that I got in that OFFICE outlet about 10 years ago down St Martin's Lane...is it still there anyone? They used to have great stuff!
I keep meaning to dig em out as it goes... I really don't find them that offensive at all fella...just ADDICTED to the others...

And YUP - wear the shit outta them...they really do go their own way and became utterly unique!
*salutes*

Re: Red Wing Boots.

Just back from our NY trip, what a wonderful place to visit, had an amazing time - now to win the lottery and buy an apartment.

Picked up a lovely pair of Redwing 8130 black moc-toe boots for the stunning price of $112 (£69) - from an amazing shop called Paragon Sports on 18th and Broadway - they were having a warehouse clearance so anyone local should check it out.

I found I actually bought a bigger size in these than my Beckmans?

Re: Red Wing Boots.

I gave up on ordering new hiking boots and took my 875s out for a brisk 4 mile mountain hike over the weekend.  I must say, they were pretty comfortable and gripped pretty good on the rocky portions of the trail.  I may just substitute them for hiking boots from now on.
