Luxire chinos

I'm taking the plunge!

I'm not happy with my overpriced J.Press chinos. I was going to wait until Japan, but I'd rather not chance it.

I'm placing a custom order with daks adjustors (side tabs) and a buckle-back cinch. Flat front, half-lined, on seam pockets, 1.5" cuffs.

What do you think of this vintage khaki soft twill?

WM, did you have to specify anything for the lining? I assume they'll just use a canvas coloured cloth and not get fancy with loud plaid patterns (I hope)?

Re: Luxire chinos

Might be me being a bit of a thrifty traditionalist,
but the heavy twill holds a press well and 'dress up' better with the added bonus of a second-life as a knock-around pair when the trousers/fabric gets very worn in (I've found lighter weight and pre-washed twills never seem to survive to get a second go-around)

Re: Luxire chinos

With the exception of the soft twill, which is a 92/8 cotton silk blend, I'm pretty sure the heavy twill and vintage twill are the same weight.

Re: Luxire chinos

What's wrong with the press chinos?  I can't recall about specifying lining.  I don't think I did.  It's just a neutral color.  They probably use light for lighter pants and a darker lining for darker pants.

Re: Luxire chinos

Did your strides come with a v-split waistband in the rear btw? Is that a standard feature or something that also needs to be requested?

Edit: Looks like I made the right choice with the heavyweight twill; looking past this guy's choice of cut, the 9oz cotton fabric looks very nice:

I believe the Press khakis are made by Berle at the moment.

Re: Luxire chinos

Ollie, mine did have a split waistband as default.  I recall the order coming in about 3 weeks after I submitted it.  I'm interested to see the results.

Oli - be aware that a .25" tolerance on clothing - especially if its thick - will be about it. So that any measurements not on the inch or half inch will probably vary on finished product by around .25".

Pretty much spot on.  Perhaps .25" variation here and there.

Re: Luxire chinos

Great! As long as the front/back rise is accurate, I'm not too worried about minor alterations. I'd probably contact Luxire and ask them to reimburse cost though if it's the result of small variances in the numbers.

Re: Luxire chinos

Right, but hopefully they'll account for that by erring on the side of .25 more rather than less, which would be a big problem. In all fairness, they have a drop-down menu on their order page which offers measurements by .25 of an inch, so I feel that they should be able to deliver if they put that option out there. I've never dealt with MTM web orders but a proficient tailor (the ones who I've used in person) should never have an issue with cutting to the quarter inch. Hopefully whoever's cutting cloth for Luxire knows what they're doing well enough that the finished product reflects the measurements provided. People seem to be happy with them based on blogs and forum posts I've seen elsewhere, so I'm not too worries. As I said, as long as they nail the front/back rise and follow the other measurements as closely as possible, I'll be happy.

Re: Luxire chinos

Btw WM, do you have any contact tel. # for the company by chance? I can only seem to pull up an email address but I'd really like to give them a call.

Re: Luxire chinos

Oli, I'm talking about manufacturing where tolerances of .25 to .5 plus OR minus are acceptable. As I understand it luxire is more toward custom even sort of bespoke so presumably are more accurate. It was just a general warning not a urgent alarm! And not specifically directed at luxire. It just triggered me when I saw .25 increments. (The quality control in clothing manufacturing was something related to info from off forum. Surprised me to find official tolerances in clothing are so big)
