Re: Boston Tailor blazer at JS

I've seen blazers illicit very negative responses, and not only in Blighty, I put it down to symbolizing a certain subconcious class division, or those golf snob bores that use to pretend to be Alan Whicker. I think it's well time for the blazer to be rehabiliated as those types are starting to go over the horizon of living memory. Indeed, from Whicker's perspective, the blazer was ideal, you could wear it to a beach bar in Copacabana and then wear it the afternoon after jet-setting on Concorde for interviewing some third world dictator and still be immaculately and appropriately dressed - it was both casual and refined at the same time. Still, I prefer pewter buttons to gold, it makes a big difference in how the blazer is received.

One of my old bosses, who is now a business competitor, always wears a blazer when meeting clients. One of his clients is also one of mine and one of their representatives can't stand him and he has said he looks like a mincing-midget-sailor-boy in his blazer. Needless to say, I don't wear a blazer when I'm meeting this particular client!

I think it was 325, which would be my limit, or more likely beyond my limit.

I would be interested to know who pays 650 quid for a copy of a 60s sack blazer. As I said earlier, my guess is it's not hardcore ivyists, but rich people who want to add a touch of class to their designer crap. Hedge fund managers etc. I'm only guessing though - maybe some ivyists are prepared to pay such sums.

It looks like something I at least would consider, would I be in vicinity of the shop. Wouldn't there be the detail of 650 GBP.

Actually, for that sum, I could have a blazer made by a tailor. But for someone who has the funds and likes it...I guess the making is quite expensive itself - small workshop, small run, transport, import duties for a non-EU country...

It's a lot of money, nevertheless.

Just to get a repp..

I have that old JS sack blazer too (bought from a forum member) and the cut was a lot more appealing. I wear blazers with white button downs and repp ties all the time, Yuca.

What buttons are they? Did you change them or were they on it originally? I recall gold or similar on them.
