Can't really argue with that.
What are the measurements on those, Oliver?
I've read they are very full in the body.
'tis true. The one Mercer shirt I have (a pale blue ocbd) is indeed cut very full in the body which is why it doesn't see as much use as it might in a slightly slimmer cut. Otherwise the shirts are fantastic however. I've also understood that when ordering from them you can specify your shirts to have the body cut slimmer (for instance having the body of a 15½" neck on a 16" neck shirt etc).
Never got round to a Mercer...far too much fannying around with the ordering procedure for me...
Nostalgia being talked about I see in another thread....
NEURALGIA more bloody like with trying to buy a Mercer...I just wanna tick my size and go to paypal and get the Fook outta Dodge & back to my dead hand and Razzle...
They do look splendid of course - however I'm really not a big enough fan of the button down to make the effort... but please call back in a year or so and I may have changed my tune innit..
"There's only one Fitzgerald Clothiers....one Fitzgerald Clothiers......"
It's been the same for me Cap. They look great but I just haven't been arsed - looking at that tartan one though, I might get my shit together. I fancy a chambray pull-over too.
And for me Cap. I might have to revisit their website.
I took delivery of some J Press OCBDs the other day. Very happy with them. Think they'll be my go-to OCBD shop from now on. Have had happy results with Kamakura and JSA before but the Press shirts just feel more "right".
The duty is the kicker for me, Fitzgerald's are perfect for me great fit, great fabrics and a wonderful roll. Looking forward to his 6 button ones when his supplier finally get's them out and will buy one of his amazing Japanese fabric summer shirts for next summer or and cheeky holidays I might have.
Feel really bad after the amazing summer that the factory messed him around so feel a great product needs to be supported.
Those do look magnificent though Oliver.
I'm coming round to the Mercers shirts, found one in my size on t'bay for peanuts and took a chance and swiftly ordered my second from the factory to take advantage of the 25% 'first time' discount.
I like their heavier fabric offerings very much,
my only disappointment has been with a lighter fabric shirt (a french blue end-on-end) which for me doesn't work ( the total lack of lining in the placket and cuffs gives the shirt too floppy a look, altho a light starching sorted that out it seems too much effort on a regular basis and rarely gets worn).
He's just back from Honeymoon on the West Coast, I guess he's settling back into work and sorting out his supplier?
He said he would get shirts list when he got back and when he had time so I guess it's just a case of waiting, might drop him a mail and see how things are.
I'm a huge fan of Fitzgeralds shirts and can't wait for the next batch. I bought a JSA button down the other day, and while it's a v nice shirt the collar roll, billow and fabric are not a patch on Henry's.
Next year though I'll take full advantage of Mercer's 25% off first time discount. Have my swatches and shortlist all lined up!
Just heard that Mercer are moving their offices to Bozeman, MT next month.
very nice shirts Ollie, not a cropper in the bunch! wear them in good health!
I've been thinking about having one of them there tattersalls made up. I went with just a 15-32 on my last order, even though I'm really like a 14.5 - 32 in most shirts. The 15 collar is comfortable but not too big with a tie. And while full-cut, like you say, the billow, even on my slight frame, is to my liking. It's gotta be the fullest cut shirt I own. Maybe I will try just a 15 collar on 14 - 32 on my next order and see how I like it. I'll vouch for their customer service too.
David basically told me that if you go down a size on the body, you're getting a '50s-'60s Makers cut.
