Re: (Casual) Winter footwear

I am saving for some Redwings but i would go easy with the leather desert boots Tommy.
My Dessies are packed away for spring now, you will break your neck in them this winter if you are not careful.
I have Long-wings with a Dainite sole for this time of year also.

JS were selling those Sperry Rangers last year but that sole looks crap to me.
I like a moc sole to remind me of Worried man =  very camp.

Re: (Casual) Winter footwear

Gunboats can be worn all year round - I've been doing it for a few years now, all with leather soles no less. Don't wear the same pair 2 days running, and if you get caught in really wet weather then obviously dry them out with newspaper as soon as you get home. Those old shoes were made to be worn and worn - back in the day a lot of people couldn't afford extensive shoe collections.

If you have to walk a long way in snow or torrential rain then I would choose boots instead though.

To go with the duffle coat I'm looking for?

I've been wondering, though they'd probably sit in the smarter shoe catergory, but what are the shoes in your avatar?

Depending on the weather you could wear cordovan loafers (especially with a duffle), Norwegian split toe boots, Bean Boots or mocs. If you intend wearing leather soles, I'd recommend having a blakey fitted to the tip.

Just in John Rushton's and tried on pair of these. Rubber soled and around £100. Very soft and comfortable.

Paraboot Michel time of year.  They work particularly well as a casual winter shoe.  Those Barkers are very nice indeed.  I'll get some or Loake Epsom before the midwinter depending on budget.

The Peebles version of those Barkers looks great, same as the Nairn in darker brown.

Yes, the Peebles are very nice indeed ... will add them to the list for when my ship (eventually) comes in. Like Armchaired, I'm 'saving up' for a pair of Redwings .... unfortunately, lots of other things keep cropping up, and I can resist anything, except temptation sad

Re: (Casual) Winter footwear

Anyone tried to remove the label on Michaels? I like the look of them otherwise, but labels on shoes are one of the worst crimes known to mankind imo.

^ its quite an easy job Yuca if you've got a steady hand,
get a sharp craft knife (ideally something like a No.28 blade in this set, so there's no flat cutting edge to damage the leather too much if you slip up).
There's always a risk tho' when using a sharp knife near leather.

i've got an old pair of meindl hiking boots. not the most stylish option around but great when one's about to wander in the woodlands for real.

Re: (Casual) Winter footwear

I'm not sure what the issue is with the very small label on the Paraboot is.  It is tiny, not to be noticed by anyone and for a handmade French obscure shoe that is not really promoting a global brand.   I've got two pairs, not given it a thought or ever had it noticed or mentioned.
