Re: The Worse Kind of Revisionist History

Well of course our own experiences carry more weight for us personally.  But that doesn't mean they are untrue.  I know exactly the events that have happened to me in life.  My personal history is in no way false.  I see what you're saying, and there's also the added fact that as even completely sane people age the mind often falls into decline and often dementia in old age.  But his point still stands.  I believe he was getting at the fact that, like Incognito says, you can't just wholeheartedly trust written history, other than Thucydides of course.

Re: The Worse Kind of Revisionist History

I don't confuse personal experience and memories of past events with the field of academic history.  Nor does my father conflate the two.  I was just reminded of what he said when I read Incognito's comment, because I think that was just my father's way of saying the same thing.  He wasn't making the literal and erroneous statement: "History is a person's recollection of their past experiences."  It was just a passing remark.

Who do you see? Who do you watch? Whose your leader? Which is your flock?
