Re: NCAA College Football

a mixed bag today, actually yesterday already ....

day started off well with a decisive Yale win over Princeton, 44-30, avenging last year's narrow defeat and setting up The Game next week against a strong Crimson.  Winner takes the conference but no matter what happens the Bulldogs will have had an awesome season and a tip of the hat to the great QB Morgan Roberts '15 and running back Tyler Varga '15.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/16/sport … .html?_r=0

late in the afternoon we set out to see Miami host the defending national champions the Florida State Seminoles and it was a classic hard-fought contest that saw the Hurricanes dominate the first half only to lose by attrition to FSU which was led by last year's Heisman Trophy winner QB Jameis Winston, who has had a significant amount of off-field trouble but is a gifted football player.

I'm literally passing out as I type this but the final score was FSU 30, Miami 26 and it came down to the wire and in fact was closer than that as FSU won on a lucky pass that was deflected into the air by the Canes but caught on the carom by FSU for a TD.

FSU also dodged a bullet when a perfect UM pass popped out of the Canes' WR's arms in the back of the end zone as the receiver's elbow hit the turf ....

can't make excuses because this game's history and as we all know it's better to be lucky than good ..... tonight FSU got lucky ......

but the Miami Hurricanes are on the rise and next year FSU won't have Jameis .....

by the way the 80,000-seat stadium was packed with America's prettiest girls, from both sides, wearing short shorts and t-shirts in the 75 degree balminess and everybody had a great time ....

I'm being sportsmanlike here because my team lost and that's really my only move but next year when we win I'll be gloating like the creeps are tonight ........

It almost gave my a cardiac, even though Alabama pretty much owned the game. I started drinking whisky about 3pm... I'm actually surprised last weeks LSU game didn't give me a cardiac...

LSU had a hangover from last week I think, they were dead on their feet last night against Arky from what highlights I saw.

Oh, what whiskey?

Sorry I missed it but I had a very interesting diversion. That was a back breaker for LSU, they had Bama right where they wanted them and blew it.

Balvenie 14Yr Caribbean Cask last night.

I'm sure your diversion was worthwhile!

Besides, Alabama knows how to beat number one teams. 7-4 all time, best record in NCAA history. I was honestly a lot more concerned about beating LSU than Msst. Tiger Stadium at night is a tough place and Bama-LSU is always a tense affair.

I know Dogs, I know ....

but Jameis was too hard to bring down and he's very accurate and only needs a split-second and a millimeter of room in which to work and a flick of the wrist later you're burnt but
still and all FSU had the luck last night with Miami dropping two interceptions, fumbling twice on otherwise beautiful completed pass plays, personal fouls, missed PAT and missed short FG, and the abovementioned carom TD catch they were favored with ......

sartorial note:

weirdly weird uniforms for Miami, what are they thinking, their orange and white is the second-best uniform in college ball .......

but I'm glad the Tide won for ya even though Nick Saban etc. etc. Dolphins etc. etc. booo.....

Re: NCAA College Football

I was stuck in horrible traffic Friday night on the downtown connector.  I'm right before the GA Tech exit. It was about 6:45, with Friday rush hour still going strong.   It's bumper-to-bumper, wall-to-wall, snail's pace traffic.  Then sirens in the distance.   Flashing lights appear behind me.  Motorists are tying to get out of the way and everyone's thinking there's a major emergency.  One, two, three motorcycle police zoom by on the shoulder.  Then two large tour busses with South Carolina plates.  Then two or three squad cars bringing up the rear.  No.  No emergency - just the Clemson football team getting treated like the f#cking presidential motorcade racing out of Dealey Plaza.  It kind of pissed me off.

College Gameday going to be at Harvard-Yale. Should be cool.

... have had some good times there ... spotting old friends you didn't expect to see carrying on in the stands like they were 20 again as the right team wins is a blast ... it's been a while since we took one, let's see what happens ...

/\  there's another gal on the left a couple or rows down from the top and a couple of seats in wearing a crazy white pillbox hat and white framed sunglasses, she a freak too .... also a guy in what appears to be a coolie hat, upper rightish ....

would love to know what they were seeing ... that pic is supposed to have been taken at The Game  ....

The fact is that all young men who play football will in due course confront more important crises even than the Harvard-Yale game. — President John F. Kennedy, April 21, 1962.

\/  this was the best Game I've been to out of the bunch, it was a perfect day .... Wooster Street for pizza after the game before the drive back to the city .... was one of the best football games I've ever seen period.   and I've seen a few classics ....
