Re: Pendleton

I've got a nice little collection at this point.  I'll break them out and take some shots later.

Re: Pendleton

^ Brooks Brothers did a collab with Pendleton last year. Don't remember any of it being worth our time, sadly.

I'm quite at odds with the fact that Pendleton and Ben Sherman just launched a collaboration.. Like a fine wine mixed with supermarket brand cola..

Re: Pendleton

Ay, feeding the addiction:

Here's a pretty (Woolmarked) Topster:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pendleton-Mens-L-Brown-Plaid-3-Button-Virgin-Wool-Blazer-Sport-Coat-Jacket-USA-/221912266350?hash=item33ab00766e:g:fwEAAOSwQTVWCS9h

Looks like one could fix this up to be a nice Topsman, but IMO it's overpriced for its current condition:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-PENDLETON-WOOL-BLAZER-SHIRT-WINTER-SIZE-S-M-BROWN-NAVY-RED-PLIAD-/181899817594?hash=item2a5a12f27a:g:~98AAOxyOMdS6HRD

This is one of the slickest Topsmans (Topsmen?) I've seen, but at a cost...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pendleton-Shadow-Plaid-Blue-Tartan-Wool-Jacket-Blazer-Coat-No-Size-Tag-/291589799421?hash=item43e41b3dfd:g:hfwAAOSw14xWHl5K

Here's one of the sport coats I love so much. As a matter of fact, I have one in this same pattern. I thought of picking it up but the sleeve length is a little worrisome for me:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mens-70s-PENDLETON-Tan-and-Black-Glen-Plaid-Workwear-Blazer-Size-40-/111813456662?hash=item1a0899f316:g:SM4AAOSwm8VUxUpt

And just when I think Pendleton is a hip company, I'm reminded just how influenced they were by the times. Particularly the '70s...http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Pendleton-100-virgin-wool-brown-blazer-coat-with-strap-Small-/252022515910?hash=item3aadb668c6:g:4DoAAOSw9N1Vn2Af

I'm looking to sell some of my Pendleton stuff pretty soon (like my Topsman, which never fit me right anyway) because I need to make my closet a little smaller. But I'd still love to get my hands on a nice board shirt. Mine is perfect except for the dang '70s collar.

Re: Pendleton

Yes I have! You can also see similar down American Classics..Im not to keen on the fitted Boardshirts takes away from the classic cut I like so much about them. The wool on the news ones is softer..but they're nice and you can often see the Beach Boys plaid in the reg cut going on ebay

Check out the Pendleton website to see the fit on the one you linked they have shots with models wearing them

Re: Pendleton

I know what you mean .. Ideally I'd like to wear it more jacket style that shirt style though I tried on the normal one when in London last month (mountain type shop in shoreditch, can't remember the name) and found it on the large side and they didn't have a smaller one in stock at the time .
The pics n the Pendleton site show that the fitted one  is more shirt like than the reg cut.
Think I may go for the reg cut and size down .

Thanks for the tip !

Re: Pendleton

Anyone know anything about suede elbow patch on '50s era Topsters?

I've got one fine specimen in my crosshairs in the right size and with the pre-woolmark label that looks to be NOS, yet it's strangely got elbow patches which I believe to be purely aesthetic based on its otherwise mint looking condition. I would bet money that it's deadstock. I'm just wondering if anyone's seen other Pendletons from mid-century with this stylized embellishment?

While I can't say I've got anything against them, it does look particularly out of place on a Topster as I just can't imagine any scenario where one could possibly blow out the elbows without completely destroying the garment, given its simple construction. I'd bet that most patchwork would've surely been the result of moths than any hard wear and tear to the elbows.

Any thoughts?

Re: Pendleton

And before anyone says it, I'm aware that Pendleton were offering some new version with suede patches. I remember seeing them at Cable Car a few years ago. I'm not interested in the contempo stuff though.

Re: Pendleton

Oli, Pendleton topsters with elbow patches were a factory option for retailers until about 1962 ( so would fit with a pre-Woolmark example), they were a 'fake suedette' rather than an actual suede.
You dont see many in good condition as laundering meant the suedette lost it's suedeness ( i.e. smoothed out) and end up looking like cheap leather.

Re: Pendleton

Thanks man! I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on it as I really dig this number and I'm sort of indifferent on the patches. It was definitely never laundered which leads me to suspect it's NOS.

I only wish there were more size smalls floating around the vintage market in those early muddy looking cool toned shadow plaids and subdued 50s patterns. There are so many hip looking Topsters on eBay sized M-L. It makes me wonder if all the small sizes all get shipped to Japan?

Re: Pendleton

^ smalls do turn up as mis-labelled Ladies 49ers jackets on t'bay occasionally.
I'll keep an eye out amongst my rockabilly collector chums for one but they are a bit rare in decent condition.
I take it you don't want a 'seagull of death' collared 50s one but one with 'regular' jacket lapels wink
