The minimalist strategy is one that occasionally attracts me, but at my age, you have accumulated a fair amount of stuff and the notion of wearing one style, silhoute and/or white button-down for all eternity is always a passing fancy. It works better when you are young and hungry.
Sometimes, just sometimes, I even like a dash of 80s RL prep, a bright red button-down, or one of those vintage oxford clothes he does, indeed, this morning I have a RL azure coloured button-down on beneath a grey v-neck jumper and a yellow and navy repp tie on. Sometimes I need a bit of fusion to add to my normal horn-rimmed jazz style!
Minimalism is a necessity for me.
Living in an Edwardian two-up two-down with my wife and two children, space is an issue, that and despite my creative tendencies, I am very organised.
My wardrobe is a selection of key items that I can mix and match as I go on so I have a strict one in one out policy as a result.
I do appreciate the idea of minimalism and i think that it is in line with the US East Coast elite practices from back in the day.
However ,like a lot of people on here i love NOS items, not only because they are usually constructed far
better than their modern counterparts but it also gives you an item as someone may have received it in the boom years.
And i like that. With the diminishing stocks of Makers,US made Florsheim imperials etc etc . How can we not stockpile knowing that these items will be impossible to find in the future?
I would be embarrassed to admit to anyone the amount of Makers i own.

Yup, agree minimalism sounds ideal, but the reality is I like to grab vintage bits when I see them, like others have said you might not get another chance - just today I have found a couple of great shirts over my morning coffee, not bought, but added to my favourites list for when I get paid.
I don't see a raincoat in either of these lists. I've only got four and I wear them all.
Yuca-
Obviously the concept of "minimalism" I've outlined here does not apply to "today's standards." Very little of what we do here has anything to do with the modern man's concept of dress. I assumed it was obvious when I referred to a "minimalist" I meant a minimalist subscribing to the Ivy canon.
A true modern "minimalist" like, say, Steve Jobs (to whom I only referred because he bought 100 of the same turtleneck, and not for any of his other clothing choices) couldn't care less about the various intricacies of an Ivy League wardrobe. For that reason (among others), this topic isn't intended to compare a minimalist Ivy League wardrobe to a man who has a single pair of sneakers and considers it "dressing up" when he throws a button-front shirt over his graphic tee. This is, after all, a forum dedicated to the "Ivy League" style.
At this point, I'd be well embarrassed to give you guys my wardrobe / shoe inventory. I'm f#cking sick I tell ya. SICK!!

I probably wear the same 12 things all the time. Usually jeans and Keydges I must admit.
Where I do need variety and choice is shoes.

just stockpiled! NOS! 1984! cords! tags, label still attached, mint, never worn, USA!
this frees old Stan from from from worrying about not having a brand-new pair ready for action, not that that was a real concern because I've been stockpiling for years!
do not stockpile sneakers, just want to get that in, the sneaks of today disintegrate too easily, the materials are bogue .....
and now it's chilly so I pulled out a sweater from that same year and tried it on and realized it's a style that suits me and I am thinking maybe I should have just one more, just in case and just for fun .....
and now I'm in the acquisition mode just like that ....
going to buy, I'm on a roll, I like sweaters ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
I'll wear it twice this year!
okay, that moment passed, I just bookmarked the page for future geeking .....
Hahaha. "bogue"
I'm happy for you bud. Seems like you really got the acquisition high.
