Re: I have come to a standstill / The Problem of Dymynysyng Returns

Let me try it from another angle.

I dont like it when men become peacocks. Nowadays that is not even "original" or "different", but pretty much normcore. See hipster beards, funny socks, Ebenetzer Scrooge coats and so on. Trad has become highstreet. More examples?

I believe that a man should look "good", but in a way that lets his personality shine, and not in a way that he becomes the cloth hanger for some "interesting" stuff he has seen at Pity Umo.

I do indeed believe that a well-cut, timeless, slightly-above-average suit, single breasted and two-button, without any "look at me" details (coloured lining, open cuff buttons), combined with very well made shoes (even RTW), a simple shirt, a very good tie, an extremely good but almost invisible watch, a good shoe shine (but avoiding the igent gloss at the tip), a simple haircut without too much product, well mainained hands, feet and teeth, an unobtrusive scent (lemon-y) and some well-made leather accessories with have already aged a bit (SAB, Papworth, Ettinger) are the ingredients for a very pleasant "canvas", against which the personality, charme, wit, brain and humour of a man can stand out.

On the other hand, I am slightly irritated when dealing with men who seem to put TOO much effort in their appereances. What are they trying to say? Arent they interesting enough so that they need these cute socks?

So, yes, I rate quality and fit much higher than attention-seeking quirky "style".

Things need to advance to test their own extent.. You have become stagnant in thought Beeston.. There is no harm in that but if people never went further...we wouldn't even be here now... Clothes must continue to evolve but the only way they can do this is to continue on a path of correctness and not pure novelty.

I think theres room in the wardrobe for the classic and daring. For me it doesn't have to be one or the other. Spice of life and all that. Some of the more "exciting" cloths make for great suits and jackets. Some of them don't. I guess its all down to the wearers choice and how much the onlookers like modern fashionable colours and patterns. Yesterday I saw a fab racing green with a light green windowpane check linen jacket. I thought it was great but I can see how someone a little more sober in taste might not. I think you can wear daring things without looking like a Pitti extra, you just need to compliment one piece rather than everything you wear scream for center stage. And shave. And wear socks.

Primitive-modern, it's all the same thing.

It's the damn baroque and renaissance that get's in the way!

But maybe that's just the spin you put on it...maybe these people are having the same reaction if you fed the spoiled food? Or you sang out of key?

Actually I think I framed that wrong.

Its more like being a mischievous kid and playing up to get a reaction

Re: I have come to a standstill / The Problem of Dymynysyng Returns

Mmmm...I get mildly  irritated everyday by someones dress because its so poorly put together. It might be a hipster or a bad boy gangsta type or whatever. I don't know why really. I don't know them, for sure I'm not jealous. No socks with dress shoes really bugs me, and pumps with a suit.

I'm all for effort and most likely am on the peacock side of things. But I love my plain navy suit as well. Horses for courses I guess.

I pity these poor Alfie types in their Ecco cross-trainer shoes, it looks like you're on the bones of your arse. I was getting in the lift the other day and this chap gets in with a dark charcoal suit on, didn't look bad at all, but then he had a pair of these black Ecco monstrosities on and they hadn't been polished for months, all scuffed up and dejected.

They look bad, a pair of €85 shoes from Marks & Spencers would be a better option if you're skintish.

It works the other way too though..in the large part many people can just be programmed into thinking something looks good when it doesn't.. If they see it advertised often enough in a positive light then they will just associate it with being a good thing... Humans are an odd bunch
