Do you go for leather or suede?

Re: J'Adore - The Dessie -

How do you cope with the crepe sole in winter?

Surely, it will slip and addition the rubber become hard and not flexible?

Wearing mine this winter, even when the ground is wet. No problems so far.

What's your favourite maker? Im looking for alternative to Clark's as I feel they fit me a little loose on the ankle.

Not had a cold crepe issue, actually love wearing wallabees in winter as the soft form keeps your feet particularly warm and oddly never had a problem underfoot - though walking in wet conditions in any crepe footwear is still an invite to a wipeout.

They are the greatest of Ivy footwear but utterly lethal in the wet!

They're easy to put on and remove.  Pull a string and kick 'em off.

AH!  Well, when it comes to shoes with laces, that is.

Re: J'Adore - The Dessie -

Beautiful, comfortable but dangerous on slippy ground.

Maybe better in snow than on wet leaves in autumn.

I wear them all year, too. But these days Paraboot Michaels or RW 875 are the most sensible option for me.

A few years ago I thought about leather chukka boots with dainite soles as a foul weather alternative. Think I'd seen various nice ones.

Re: The desert boots' oriental cousins:

I read about a style that was popular all over North Africa and the Middle East. Probably derived from the veldtschoe, made in Cairo, Baghdad or Istanbul, and most likely what Nathan Clark had seen on officers in Burma.

It said they would come in all shades of sand and brown, the most desirable being a kind of tobacco colour with a hint of orange. It sounded quite like that hue that Clarks call cola, and that Sanders call snuff.

I wear desert boots all year round. I love them in both leather and suede. I have worn leather ones in -20C and suede ones at +35C. The only problems I have had regarding grip is autumn in the UK with leaves on the ground. I love the Clarks shape and I find them a most adaptable shoe, especially when travelling.

I wear my Clarks all year round as well. I've have the beeswax style which are versatile for all weathers - haven't slipped yet!

I remember a while back Worried Man posted a pic in the ILSFT thread wearing (black?) desert boots with a suit. Looked great from what I can recall!
