She was only a collier's daughter.
But she knew every vein in the shaft.
My donkey jacket was a winter version with a stewart tartan wool lining. I am starting to think that I need to buy one. Today all workers wear the high visibility jackets so perhaps it is time to reclaim the good, honest, utilitarian jacket and wear it proudly around the streets of Shoreditch. How much did you pay CaptainMaddox?
The only ones who wore them in my part of the world were boneheads. Seeing this topic, I realize I haven't seen one of these jackets in decades.
I bought a jacket from Van Japan (navy 60/40, mid-length,knitted shawl-collarl) last Winter. Google translated it as "Donkey jacket". I only ever associated this with the coats discussed here. Is "donkey jacket" a generic expression for "workingman's" coat?
I had no idea the donkey jacket carried so much baggage.
Right. I'll leave that out of the luggage when I make my London rounds.
Donkey Jacket is a poor man's car coat.

I picked up a perfect navy cashmere-wool mix one from Jaeger for 90 quid last year in their online outlet. A lot of decent retailers have a version.
If anyone is looking for a Brooks Brothers navy one in 44 ..... let me know by PM!!!
Good call with Dexy's - that look really tied in with the Two-Tone thing at time. It was "On the Waterfront" meets "Down the Shopping Precinct".
Ha! Council binmen social?
Someone has drawn badly on one of their faces with a biro. That's what happens when you fall asleep on a night out with the lads from work.
