The shirt Steve McQueen is wearing on the cover of HOLLYWOOD AND THE IVY LOOK is actually black. It was re-touched for the book as it was felt black was so very wrong. And the navy does look so much nicer no? This is the shocking truth.
WHAT?!!! So how much of the rest of the book has been doctored? I suddenly feel like my world has been thrown of its axis. Is that leather embellishment on Newman's cord jacket even real? Was that photoshopped too?!! And Shatner's red socks? Tell me those were real.
Oh the fun we had putting that book together. It's all fakery. Ivy never really happened in Hollywood. It's amazing what you can do with Photoshop.
Well, fantasies are always nice. I can correct my thinking accordingly.
I have heard enough ! This is blasphemy and i will be taking my Steve picture down from the toilet wall as a result.
I am now going to replace it with that picture of Woof as he is at least wearing a blue shirt (although i dont like the buttons).
I suppose i could Photoshop Woofs picture to show white MOP Buttons.
I couldn't think of a friendlier face to gloat at ,as a take my morning constitutional.
I bet the socks were Everton blue before but were altered as well...
The problem is of course, for us Brits, black shirts are too keenly associated with being a member of Joy Division or Gary Numan.
One can like one and still be accepted into polite society, but not both, and not sporting a black shirt.
You never saw Paul Weller or Mick Talbot make this mistake.

A black button down shirt with a white piano tie and mod emblem on it may be one of the most awful looks, it's just a shame I was so taken with it at the age of ten in 1979 and wore it all over until I knew better at the ripe old age of eleven.
