Go for it. Always liked a basket weave, don't own any though. Rare as hen's teeth nowadays. Doesn't Vass make a pair?
So I've got Stan down for three pairs... anyone else?
They are beautiful shoes and would no doubt be just right with some sort of smart tropical suit. But they put me in mind of Don Johnson/Miami Vice.....I think that in the UK they would look rather cheesy. They're a little too far down the ornamental route for me, tassel loafers is as far as I would go on that gig. However Oliver, I'm sure you have the ideal outfit and venue in mind and will carry them off perfectly on the night!
Are we really going here? I quit!
Popular Mod style. I used to have a pair in black, back in the day.
I quite like these Vass Budapesters. I think a basket weave section works better than a whole shoe.

Currently soaking my feet in hot water, hoping they'll shrink to an 8.5 so I can buy these.

Great post, katon!
I love those Venetian styled tapered toe lounge loafers.
The Raffia Casual sounds interesting too, I'd love to see an actual photo. I can't fully envision a straw loafer.

such great pics Katon ....
there are different kinds of raffia so it's hard to tell exactly which kind was used for the Brooks Brothers raffia straw casual loafers from 1961 but they're not leather basket weaves.
can't rule them out without a better look at them.
The Italian woven leather ones are off-putting to me.
from the Bean pages I would order all of them except maybe the ventilated duck crepe soles ...
I wonder who at Princeton in 1955 was buying and wearing the Clarks Chupplee sandals ... I would love to see pics of them in action .... spring break maybe ....

Those winos are beautiful. Is that a crepe band around the sole or an espadrille style woven material? I dig them a lot. The contempo Florsheim loafers aren't bad either. Can't say I'm totally gone over them but I wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen in them around the pool deck either. I'd wear them with bermudas or some tapered tropical weights. Anything full cut would be grandad territory I think.
those Beans did look like winos though they are too nice to be real winos (even though good old Tom Verlaine wore winos a lot) BUT still a no-go for little old square me ... just no.
but the Bean moccasin buckle chukka - say it five times fast - those I dig, and the Clarks desert boots, and the Bean Ranger Mocs ....
the basket-woven shoes are so creepy that I just realized I must've been trolled again ..... they're jivey maybe, but not Ivy .... never saw them them on a legit Ivy old-timer ....
but everybody be happy and in fact I encourage experimentation so to all considering a leather basket woven ventilated shoe, go for it, and good luck at the racetrack!
