Re: Lean Garments

In breaking popover news: I am wearing mine today!

Quick reportage: I like.

For some on here they will be a little short in the body, but I only see a popover as a summer shirt so quite like the possibility of wearing it untucked with a pair of shorts or chinos.
The fabric is very nice (I bought the light blue only) and I think the collar or the popovers is the best yet from them.

A solid 8/10.

Same same. Flying to Spain tomorrow at lunchtime. If they arrive before 10am...

/\ Hahaha.

Wow. That's creepy, WM.

It never crossed my innocent mind that you could change my words an attribute them to me. Welcome to the jungle, Chief...

Re: Lean Garments

He's confusing you with Oliver I think? But that would probably be New York for Breakfast,  Japan for Lunch and Paris for Dinner with the missus?

Where is Oli anyways lately?

Re: Lean Garments

I missed out on these but have pre-ordered a one in blue. I've no idea when the next batch will be due so it'll be a nice surprise when it does turn up.

I also see that they are doing jeans, not too sure on the colour, but not bad for $75-$90.

Re: Lean Garments

I'm not 100 percent sure about the color on those jeans either. I would prefer them in some nice raw denim or just in a dark wash. But I probably wouldn't go for them anyway because there are so many other good alternatives for jeans if you just increase your budget a tiny bit. Cheap oxford shirts with most of the right details that's more interesting and I think they perhaps should stick with shirts and focus on improving them before they start experimenting with other types of clothes. But that's just my opinion. smile

With that said, I'm looking forward to when my popover arrives and hoping it will fit. I'm sure it'll be good.

I always think of Oli as being a combination of Our Man Flint,  Thomas Crown and our favourite graduate Benjamin Braddock.

I had been wondering what had happened to all of O'Connells finest NOS?

Re: Lean Garments

Just thought I'd update anyone interested in the popovers.

Initial thoughts, post-wash and wear......

Collar is good - they've done a good job with this. 3 button and loop. Better than some older shirts I have. Was a bit worried as out the packet they looked like they had that fused, bobbliness to them, but a wash and iron sorted that out.

Material - light to mid-weight. Pretty nice. Not the best, but no complaints

Placket - would prefer a 4-button. Second button could be lower.

Sleeves - I got a large. The sleeves are long! Anyone who wears less than a 35 sleeve might struggle with this. Works fine for me. I did my patented sleeve shrinking process to shorten them a touch.

Cut - the photos did make these shirts look mighty unbalanced. They're actually not so. However, and this is the biggest drawback for me, the shirts 'flare' out at the sides (like gitman shirts, I believe) which is a bit annoying. Shirt looks better tucked (length worked well for me to wear both tucked and untucked) but that flare annoys me (although out of all the things in the world to be annoyed with....). If I could be bothered I'd get that tapered in, but just not worth it.

Manufacture - obviously was never expecting union-made/US production given the cost.

Overall, 7/10 for me. Probably worth buying the popovers, I think. Popover is much better than the Gant one (a 3/10 shirt) I've got which is soon to become a cloth to clean my bike.

Re: Lean Garments

I also notice they're going to be doing a popover in blue gingham.

Re: Lean Garments

I agree, Colin. Good assessment.

I am returning mine. They are too trim in the body and too tight under the arms. Will try the next size up if there's any left in stock. Love the collar roll though. Tried them on under a jacket and they stand up well.

The sleeves are too long and the body too short. The quality is just OK.

Fingers crossed the proportions make more sense on the Medium…I really want them to as the collar/placket looked great under my tan Keydge.

Re: Lean Garments

Am I tacky for thinking the placket base should have a big X box stitch?
I guess y'all got your orders in before me, as I still don't have mine.
what's this sleeve shortening process?

I see some more shirts are becoming available this  weekend.
Overall would you say the shirts are worth ordering?
