I actually wore a pair of sneakers yesterday for the first time in weeks, had been wearing nothing but flip-flops, yesterday had to wear a pair of Vans Era, I do like them, in plain colors
Saw this, last year I thought about exactly those options. Did not buy any of them - I think the Alden "modified last" (which is only a marketing gag, it is an old last that is and was used everywhere, especially for work shoes and boots, e.g. Red Wings) is weird for Sneaks and the price for the Wakouwas is very high - despite their are made in Taiwan. Reviews are very mixed, I don't know.
The Asahi seem to be a GREAT option, they look fantastic and I was really thinking about them - but they are made for a high instep - I have a very low instep, and as they aren't available here in Austria, I did not want to order them online without trying, you know...
I bought a pair of red Vans Vault, which are more or less the same breed as the Anaheim Collection. Good bang for what they are, much better quality than regular Vans. Comparable to the 70s Converse. If I were after a white deck shoe, I would probably go for an Anaheim Authentic. They are a bit stiff, though but break in well. But they are not really the "real deal", as they are not a true Sperry derivate...
when it comes to white sneakers I am still happy with my Novesta Stars. Are they Ivy or preppy? Don't think so, I guess the most Ivy/ Preppy white canvas sneakers are still Sperry deck shoes, Pro Keds tennis shoes and: Jack Purcells. A shame that they are not like they used to be.
Stan, which white canvas sneakers would a real old school Preppy wear in 2020?

last night I splurged and splashed out on a pair of vintage style Adid@s Gazelles in white with black stripes, and leather lining, and leather tongue
since Adid@s bollixed up the Gazelle by using a plastic tongue, which is unwearably uncomfortable for me, I've done without Gazelles
which is too bad because I always wore them, they were my jam, and in the past decade I've only had one pair I liked, a special edition in light brown hemp, which were good, and I wore them, but for some reason they were a very warm sneaker, which I did not anticipate and which didn't work well for me in the permanent hot weather, although they looked great
I gave them away ultimately, but am looking forward a lot to this new pair, we'll see
I also picked up a brand-new pair of Adid@s Puig skateboarding sneakers in blue, I don't skateboard but the shoes seem pretty fly, they sold out instantly
which may be some kind of reselling thing kids do now, they buy up the hottest new styles and then resell them, which is a pain in the ass, and the reason some companies limit the number of pairs that one can buy ......
I'll report back when the new sneakers arrive and I've decided whether to keep them or send them back
my keep-to-return ratio is very low, most get sent back, but I persist
Any UK cats after a simple offering then TK Maxx has Lo Top Pro Keds at a good price and size range

I think Shoes Like Pottery are mentioned somewhere on this thread - which, as you can see, ran on awhile. Pretty sure they're Japanese. Not for the likes of me. I have a knackered old pair of Sperry which I wear when buying chips/posting a letter/buying croissants. Used to own USA-made Jack Purcell. Stan Smith about fifteen years ago.
I think SLP would look a bit iffy on anyone over thirty to be honest. They're featured on the JS website and perhaps some now working with Paul might wear them. Paul, by the way, was a good, pared-down dresser when I saw him back in the summer of 2012.
I like the Converse Chuck Taylor ‘1970s reissues’. Basic style, good quality materials and proper insoles -70 quid.
Even more I like Muji sneakers. Basic style, good quality materials and proper insoles - 25 quid. Much more acceptable for something that ultimately you just wear to destruction.
