I felt the insoles were either not attached or had come unglued and it felt like they weren't properly, tightly, seated in the shoe ....
style-wise they looked good .... going to try again tomorrow so thanks Chief!
The Sperrys are evil on the heal. Both the cottonopolis and navy pair were agony but found the solution in buying the plasters (band aid) that come as a long strip you cut to length, then wear with socks until broken in. Mine took months and I tried everything including hitting with a hammer but the plaster solution was the only thing that worked, they are fine now. The leather lined ones were the worst offenders, like razor blades.
thanks Tom, crazy you mention razors, these bad melon farmers are insanely sharp ....
However I'm going to try to break them in because they look good
I bought two pairs, one navy, one white, will try to get the navy pair to do my bidding first
If blood is drawn though it's return time
Can't spend £150 on those Japanese beauties
Going to try Band-Aids and moleskin bits and thickerer socks, wish me luck T.
Stansh, you've got to completely unlace 'em... pull them right out and relace just enough that they hang on your feet. Wear them around like that for a few weeks to break them in and you'll be good. I wasn't kidding when I said that big brown stain on the back of the heels that you could see in the pic I uploaded was blood. It soaked the heel of my old CVOs. I won't make the same mistake... thick ass wigwams, blister bandaids and min. two weeks of wear with them barely laced up. That's how to break them.

Going to do just that Mr. TKO
with the help on you and Tomiskinky I'm gonna get through this
McD my new Vans are painless, there's a lot to be said for them on that count
Peace to Dukes 'J-Dubs' and Duffs 'Cobnobblers', and propers to Stan for the Paragon shout. Cop yourself a North Face backpack and some Air Madas, word.

P.S. Marls, Nikee ACG stuff ruled, the one pair of sneakers Japanese people tried to buy off my feet, at Paragon actually, was a pair of Nikee ACG gray low top mesh/suede hikers, don't recall the name but I trekked with them and loved 'em
... Still have a beautiful pair of Nikee hiking boots from '96, tan suede and great sole and speed laces, so dope, strongly resembled the classic Vasque Sundowner

Annoyingly it seems ACG has become N I K e Lab...and apart from the odd reissue nothing is really looking that good currently..the new balance 710 from a couple of years back look good though..if we're talking trail running and hiking

If he'd had any class he would've said. ... take a hike.
I didn't even get in the door - he was having non of it, ugly fat fecker.
Ollie, thanks for the CVO review and pics!
Think I'll keep the birch, might return the navy, other repro details notwithstanding, the old good real Sperry blue canvas deck shoes I knew were a completely different color blue, not as dark, out of the box
it wasn't a matter of sun fading ....
The color of a pair of navy Vans Authentics is closer to the blue Sperrys I bought in '78 and '82
But for style I like those birch ones for sure
In the vernacular, I will make the birches my bitches.
