Aw, man, I've seen that. Those awning-striped t-shirts are so classic, almost impossible to find in bright colors these days, or without logos.

Re: Surf Ivy/ The west coast look

I stumbled on this place on my walk to work the other day. Might have to check them out today. I think their inventory of hats, tees, and sneaks is much larger what's shown online.

EDIT: Meh, perhaps not. I stopped in and it most def caters to the skateboard younguns. Not quite my cup of tea.

Re: Surf Ivy/ The west coast look

FYI and FWIW, re Birdwell sizing, the image on the site of the 6'1" 200# dude would appear accurate. As I'm around that same measurement (slightly less poundage), I found that size 33 is, indeed, my size in Birdwell. In fact, I first purchased 34s, thinking I could go with my usual pants size, but that gave me something a little too baggy. They are most definitely vanity sized or whatever you want to call it--they seem to run at least a size large.

good to know, need to place an order for some custom surf Ivy Birdies, want to go a little flashy with this new pair but will try a stock pair first before going custom ....

had the old sizing and methods down cold before the sale ....

Them britches is too long. I think there's a happy medium between Speedos and that kind of thing.

Re: Surf Ivy/ The west coast look

/\  nice find BB

re the article: besides the fact that the rule is stupid and the nice older dude needs the length for modesty, swim trunks/board shorts of that length are called "jams," not "jammers" .....

nobody ever called them jammers and they weren't advertised as such back in the day, they were sold as "jams," and that is that.

for shame ...... our boys Patrick and RPMcD would've gotten it right .....

Re: Surf Ivy/ The west coast look

calling them jammers is awful ... the trunks themselves are too long as well but Speedos at the beach are also very wrong, even for a lifeguard .... goddamn it all to hell!

I swam and played water polo for years and have worn plenty of racing briefs and still have a pair somewhere around here .....

but seriously though everybody knows Speedos are hilarious ....

anyway if you really want to know my take on this, I think the only good swimwear is the thing Borat wears, and also neoprene wetsuits .....

actually I want a light wetsuit top and welcome any suggestions ...

-------------

still wearing the hell out of my gold Birdies but also went to the beach a couple of times last week and was forced into the water in old blue J. Press poplin walk shorts with Brooks (tie-back this time) boxers underneath, which is my jam much of the time  ........

came home and changed into fresh Incontinence pants and Champion then later into Press and Brooks and then to N!ke and Vans and then O'Connell's and Andover and then Gildan and Puma and then Levi's and Aldens and on and on and on on and on ... y'all know the rest ...........

Re: Surf Ivy/ The west coast look

On another tangent...

I wore my burgundy Birdwell Beach Britches on my walk to work today. It was 70-plus F, 75 percent humidity, and nothing but sun at 7:30 a.m., so I decided this was the option. I wore a light t-shirt and my Incontinence pants, and walking to work never felt so comfortable.

This method entails packing a bag with your work clothes, but it's worth it for the sweat control.

Re: Surf Ivy/ The west coast look

What are the pants WM, chinos or wheat jeans?

And what are the cymbals? Zildjians?

Re: Surf Ivy/ The west coast look

Not pants, shorts.  Sort of stone colored shorts from Lands' End and Keds.  It was sweltering.  Cymbals are all '60s era Zildjian As.  I forgot you're a fellow drummer.
